Belt replacement issue...

Not really a problem just looking for opinions and advise. I have a 2014 6.2l AT. I purchased replacement belts from NAPA for spring break trip. Had some minor service done by a local mechanic and had him do the belts as well. He was not very familiar with stretch belts and I think he may have damaged the one on the A/C compressor because it keeps jumping one tooth forward. I found some videos using a wire tie method and I got the belt back in the proper position. I ordered another new one but my question is has anyone familiar with stretch belts seen this problem?

Those belts are good for at least 75,000. Hoses good for 100,000.

Changing belts already????? I haven't changed a belt in over 20 years and that one broke at 210k miles! Sometimes preventative maintenance can be overkill and cause more problems than they solve (if there was a problem to begin with.

Truck has 110k miles. Going on vacation and doing Preventive Maintenance. Original belts were getting noisy. There are 3 belts on the 6.2: one has tensioner and the other 2 are stretch belts. Stretch belts (now that I have done them are no big deal) but still not fun to do while on a trip.

Replace them with OEM next time. Aftermarket don't come with the tool to install them from what I've looked into, so unless your guy has a stretch belt installer tool, who knows how he put them on. The OEM belts come with the tool.

You need a tool to pull the stretch belts off and put them back on. If he pried it off with a screw driver he most likely bent the belt guides now it's coming off.

Need to pull the belt and inspect your pullies now.

The stretch belts are supposed to be cut off.

I put a new belt on myself. Checked pulleys and all are true. I believe issue was either bad belt or damage to belt from installation.

I have a tool that removes them and puts them back on with no damage.

The dealers state they must be cut off, thus they sell you a belt you didn't need to buy.

In my opinion it's a cash grab.

I don't believe so...........They should just be cut off and replaced per the Manufacture and GM

Remember when you had to drive around with all the belts in your trunk? Ha......times be changing!

I need to replace my belts also, I have a 14 with 121k miles and mine aren't squealing yet but it's coming up on winter and I'd rather do it now than in the cold... Anyone know where I can locate the part numbers for the belts and the stretch belt tool? Any advice for installing stretch belts, I've never done those before? Thanks in advance

I was changing my compressor earlier this year and just cut the belt off the ac.  Big mistake.  $85 for the OEM belt and tool from the dealer. O’Reilley didn’t have one that fit right.  Order online from the GM web sellers.   The ac belt only runs the compressor.  If it’s not looking bad, I’d run it til at least summer or til it failed.

I got the "tool" from Rockauto for about $10...it's a small piece of machined aluminum that allows you to roll the new belt on the pulley. Worked well for me...
