Stock or quiet Muffler with Headers?

I am looking to quiet down my exhaust, by a lot. I currently have American Racing longtube headers, no cats, and a Magnaflow resonator ("race muffler" is what they call it on their website). The truck is way too loud. Wakes my neighbors up even cranking it in the garag. I think it sounds great when your pinned to the floor but can not stand the super raspy tones that it sends out at mid RPM.

I am wanting to leave the longtubes w/o cats and add a muffler just cant decide which one to go with. I'm wanting to go much quieter so was wondering how much power I would actually lose if I were to install the stock exhaust with longtubes and no cats. Trying to describe the sound I'm looking for is very difficult but I feel like the stock muffler or maybe one that quiets it down a lot would be what I'm looking for. The only thing I can think of to describe is the sound of a stock Z06 Corvette. Obviously it would take a lot more to achieve such an amazing sound but hopefully you get the picture.

To narrow it down, I'm looking for a quiet, inexpensive, exhaust that isn't going to make me lose power.

The ultimate goal for the exhaust is to make it quiet for cruising and have an electric cut out for when I really want to open her up.

Thanks in advance! Looking forward to getting this right!

Below is a video of what it sounds like now.

Depending on the neighbors stock may be your best bet without cats and resonator. You might get away with say a 22 inch Magnaflow or such but probably not without adding a resonator. Contrary to belief cats do tame down exhaust sounds considerably.

I dont have an answer for what you are looking for, but i just had to say DAMN nice High country!

I have kooks 1 7/8 LT catless Y pipe on order now and running Corsa Sport now.

I know some people run Touring mufflers and they are super quiet, not sure on the price though.

I'm running two knock off Magnaflows 14" and a 22" welded back to back and with non-catted headers and a blower it's still loud as HELL!

07 do those knockoffs have any packing inside to dampen sound? Magnaflows do so they will be quieter but probably not to the extent RaptorEater is looking for. Shoot even a Borla Touring is loud as heck in a 5.3 with LT headers and no cats.

Good luck with your test 07 hope you get the sound/tone your after. Like I said without the cats it's tough to get a good non raspy tone that won't wake up the dead or piss off the neighbors.

I have the 12909 Magnaflow 22" for mine. At idle most think I am stock as it is fairly quiet no drone when cruising... I am not running headers though... Removed the flapper, and resonator as well. When I gun it, it gets quite a bit louder... I doubt it will tame your catless longtube set up but it could be a good place to start. My understanding from the stock muffler cut in half images I have seen is not a straight pass through setup which may affect your performance gains of adding the headers. Just my thoughts.

I run the oem catback with my catless headers/y. I replaced the oem muffler with Borla 40359. The key in my opinion to keeping that sound down is the stock resonator, which I still have in place.

Maybe just try adding that back in first and see if it helps you.

Grab a muffler from a previous generation 07-13 6.2 truck, they flow really well, and sound great. On my 2011 6.2 Sierra I had Kooks 1 7/8" headers catless going back to the factory 3.5" cat-back, loved the sound. Nice and quiet on the highway, but had plenty of growl when you laid on it. That's the setup I plan to run when i get some headers for the new truck.

Thanks for all of the replies! So i guess the question is should i try a resonator, stock 2014+ 5.3 muffler, or 07-13 6.2 muffler?

Would you happen to have a video of yours? What are you referring to as OEM if you replaced the muffler? Just the piping and resonator? Definitely sounds like something I'm looking for. Thanks!
