Dinged my front bumper

I dinged my High Country front bumper in a tight garage on one of the side walls. Its about an 8 inch scratch, and probably about a 2 2 inch wide small dent.

 

I took it for estimates to two body shops today. A body shop at a nearby GMC dealer suggests I replace the entire bumper and estimates close to $1700. Gerber collision says they can fix it after removing it and estimates close to $700.

 

Anybody had their bumper repaired? Should I replace or repair? Do these seem like fair estimates? Any advice appreciated.

Doesn't sound that bad. I'd keep it the way it is, adds character. Keep the truck 10 years and you'd probably have alot more than just one ding lol.

for reference, I just after a bad day for the first time in probably 30+ years got in an accident, rear ended someone (light fender bender bent passenger corner of my bumper and broke headlight and other stuff in that area, no body damage) but the replacement of bumper, headlight, front plastic bumper cover, inspection and repair or replace of a few things like 1 fog, refinish/ paint on the front bumper bar thing in the middle of the bumper, and the like was about 1900 from insurance using genuine gm parts. iirc bumper and/or headlight one was around 500 and one was 700.

 

That makes yours sound a bit expensive but then again, my estimate is probably discounted, my bumper is chrome, yours would have to be painted and color matched. check cost of your bumper at surplusgm.com, add in couple hundred for paint finishing, then labor for removal and re-install (sensors, etc)...you may not be that far out of line.

Had a crease in my front bumper on the 2007.5 from backing into a camp spot - never worried about it - another 2x3 mega scratch on the tailgate from a bike coming loose on the hitch - got a $300 bid - brush touched it instead and forgot about it. Both my fault. Did not hurt resale one bit in 10 years - but then it was a Duramax.

 

Like he says its a truck - more will follow....... Forgetta bout it.............

I appreciate that I drive a truck but I don't like dents and scratches on my vehicle. If the body shop says it can be repaired to new condition, and save you $1k, then I'd get it repaired.

Agree. You got a High Country, don't treat it like a '99 Ford Ranger.

 

I've always been counciled that you can't repair a chrome number. This, painted, is obviously repairable and probably needs to be done. You trust your shop?

It's crazy people saying to leave it that way. For the life of me, I just don't understand the people that reply and don't have useful information to supply to the thread. It would be nice to not have to sort through these ridiculous responses, just shut up if you don't have anything worth contributing.

 

The bumper can be repaired. I had mine repaired about 5 weeks after I got my truck. This repair is damage dependent. Keep in mind, the bumper can be had for about $450 if it's painted and about $550 if it's chrome, add another $250 to have it painted. The front bumper is very easy to change yourself. If there isn't a YouTube video already. I can make one and post it up for you.

Check Craigslist for a used bumper. Should only be 1-200. They are here locally all the time.

Call it what you want, but people pays lots of money for something like to get things fixed as they happen, "OCD/Control issue" isn't someone that takes care of their truck.

I dinged my rear bumper 2 months after ownership. Trailer came unhitched and slammed into me 3 times. It hurt. I immediately looked for repair or replacement costs. Took that opportunity to look for a color match bumper because that's what I wanted. Found a color matched bumper from a local member here, sold the the chrome one. Almost broke even. Couldn't be happier. Yes, it's a truck... but I want it to be the best/cleanest, ding and scratch free as long as I can. If you need bumper removal help, PM me. I am a pro at it as I've taken my bumper off 4 times. Lol.

It is about 9 inches long, and the metal is dented.

 

I'm totally up for removing and replacing the bumper if I can save some money and get a replacement unit. Where would I start?

Does anybody have a video or instructions of how to remove the bumper? Mine is a 2014 with the park assist sensors.
