Thinking of going back to gm. need help

My work truck is a '16 Sierra LT 5.3 6sp and my daily is a '17 Denali 6.2 8sp. My wife has a '16 Yukon Denali XL 6.2 8sp, Mother-in-law '14 Silverado High Country 5.3 6sp, Grandpa '17 Silverado High Country 6.2 8sp. They have all been flawless, though every time I drive one of the 5.3 vehicles I'm reassured that the 6.2 is the superior motor... Faster, and gets better gas mileage. I run premium gas but my wife doesn't, and we get similar results.fa5f4ad28678979549da2fd32e7a070e.jpg

Yes going fast is fun, but not in a 1500 chassis full size pickup. Have you ever whipped around a bend in the mountains in a Silverado or Sierra and felt like things might get out of control real fast? Yea. It's not a sports car, it's a pickup truck with a high center of gravity and a suspension tuned for towing and hauling not cornering and acceleration.

If you want to go fast get a Camaro.

i agree with what your trying to say but i think you have it wrong. Even the average person knows a truck isnt a corning vehical and people who like that sort of thing with have a vehical thats built for it. Now for a truck its about strait line speed like a run between red lights or a 35 roll on the interstate. Most people dont care if a car out runs a truck but no ones wants to get beat by another truck if that makes any since.

Unless the vehicles are similar it has less to do with driving skill and more to do with what you paid. Why would anyone feel bad if beaten by another truck?

Every magazine article I read on trucks has an 0-60- 1/4 mile time included and which truck is the fastest. So it matters to the masses, especially since more often than not people are using them as pleasure vehicles.

OP, it sounds like you've already made up your mind, you're just trying to rationalize it now. These are great trucks and your experience with the Ram's seem to reinforce that.

WTF are they made of? Gold? Platinum? Man alive!! Sorry I have nothing yet to add, I am still awaiting delivery of my Silverado........

Fuel filters are a big deal for a diesel truck. Dirty fuel can take out the VERY expensive injectors or high pressure fuel pump.

Id hate to ask this but how are the tundras? And by the way thanks for all the input and advice.

The Tundra is outdated. The frame is a flimsy C-channel design and the powertrain is ancient. This is reflected by it's gas guzzling EPA fuel economy numbers. They're actually closer to the fuel economy you might expect out of a Chevy 3/4-ton gasser these days. Toyota's truck division gives the Tacoma priority these days. Before I bought my 2014 I stopped by the closest Toyota dealer to see what prices would be for a Tundra but they wouldn't budge despite being outdated and the truck having sat there for as long as it had. The sales guy just went on about their reputation for reliability which doesn't mean jack to me. Considering the garbage reliability problems with the 2016 Tacoma, Toyota reliability isn't a forgone conclusion these days.

Right about now, I'll take an outdated gas guzzler over a vibrator with ticking timebomb of a transmission.

lol speak for yourself. My truck has been solid for 3 years. Make sure to stay on top of the rust on those piece of shit Tundras. Their frame rot so bad Toyota just lost a multi billion dollar lawsuit because of it. Not to mention the Tundra is known for its own transmission problems. And engine oil leaks. And high speed front differential vibrations. And bed rust. And rear axle leaks/diff problems. And driveshaft carrier bearing vibrations. And electrical glitches. And bad wheel bearings. It's all out there. Go read the multiple Tundra forums. Look up how much Toyota is going to take you for parts like their junk "air injection pump"... Well over a $1000 for a pump that goes bad all the time and leaves owners stranded. It's identical to an AC Delco part that sells for less than $100 bucks.

Just look at the 2016 Tacoma, ranked worst in reliabiliy by Consumer Reports and currently being recalled for rear axles that howl and whine as the ring & pinion burns up. And recalled for junk crank position sensors that cause the engine to stall out and leave you stranded. And engine oil leaks, ABS controller failures, paint that chips too easy, frames that rot out, transmissions that shift like shit, leaf springs that squeak and groan by 10k miles, ring gears that rip their teeth off, front diffs that vibrate, etc etc.

Go on, tell me more about that Toyota reliability.

If I could do it over again, I would never have bought my brand new '17 Silverado back in December, I would have searched harder for a "gently used" truck (which is what I've since traded that '17 Silverado in on), or paid more for a Duramax Colorado CCLB (since I'll wind up paying that amount anyway after losing money on my Silverado). The Colorado transmission is the same that was in my '08 BMW and to me has been proven, the fit and finish seems better, and they are just all around smoother a vehicle. Too bad GM prices them at full size truck prices, they don't want to take money away from the cash cow K2 (even though it is losing market share).

I own a 2017 silverado 1500. This truck has been a disaster. I just finished arbitration and the arbitrator Gave gm a final repair attempt. GM just called and told me they're replacing my cab mounts. Gm has been very unfriendly and even told me to drive the posted speed limit to address my vibration concerns. I will never buy another gm product

I think its funny how 10-15 years ago if you wanted a good truck that will last well beyond 200k miles you just went to the local chevy dealer and picked the color you wanted. Now it seems theres no all around great trucks to be had new. Ashame considering the premium they're all chargeing. What do you guys think happened?

Electronics. Everyone has to keep up and outdo what the other manufacturer is doing so they add more and more gadgets, add to that emissions control crap and well.. there ya go.
