Has anybody smoked their tails? I am wanting to darken them up a bit but not sure the best way to go about it. I have seen people just plastidip but would like a more even look.

I wouldn't have a clue on how to roll it or even light the damn thing... I'm sure it would taste terrible and be quite toxic.

Common misconception, but vht night shade is transparent. (allowing light to pass through so that objects behind can be distinctly seen.)c290a9798869bf3fe8dddc3882e007bc.png

 

If you don't like it, no one is forcing your hand to do it, he made this page to ask questions about tinting taillights and so far people are saying they lost their insurance because of this, I personally would like to see the police write up for the incident and to know exactly what product they used.

 

I believe tires that stick out past your vehicle fenders is more illegal and can cause more damage then slightly tinted lights, but still people do that as well.

Not to beat a dead horse to death but if people can't handle other people's opinions, whether they are relevant to the topics or not, then they shouldn't be posting on a public forum website. From what I've read so far, no one is bashing the OP for wanting to "tint" or "smoke" his or her tail lights. They are only offering outside perspectives that maybe he or she hasn't thought of. I don't know about you but I don't know everything there is to know in this world but I have abandoned some bad ideas based on input from other people, even when I didn't ask for it. So, if the OP wants to alter their tail lights, then by all means because they make the payments, not me.

 

Now to your point about VHT Nightshades. See picture below but VHT specifically states on their website that the Nightshades product is "Off-Road Use Only." This would imply to me that it is not 100% legal for use on all roadways where the product may be sold. I understand that the statement is a legal "CYA" for them but it doesn't negate the fact that using the product alters the factory safety equipment which is illegal in most areas. Also, VHT is "translucent". Not much of a difference but it will only allow some light to pass thru it, not images (Window are transparent, frosted glass is translucent). VHT Nightshades will cut down on the light output of the tail lights. I'm sure how much depends on how many coats and how thick it is applied.

Window tint looks great. I heard it doesn't last long though because it's meant to be applied inside the truck and isn't built to withstand the elements. How long have you had yours on?

I've had mine on a couple weeks shy of 1 year. Still looks good. Those photos were taken shortly after it was put on. I can take a 1-year follow-up photo and post it after work.

Bg what % tint did they install on your taillamps? IMO doesn't look too dark compared to stock. May be able to sneak this by the authorities here.

Plus if a ticket is issued this mod is easily reversible before appearing in court.

Following this topic. I've been considering some form of light tinting, just enough to knock down the bright red glare.....but I'm concerned about the ramifications if I were to get rear-ended. I love the look, though.

The ramifications for insurance is what scares me too. Although, if you added the tint then new LED bulbs that are much brighter you will likely be at higher performance than stock. That said it seems plausible that you would have to fight the insurance company in court to actually win a payout.

 

Love the look of the tint though, the gloss matches the truck perfectly.

I tinted my taillights about a month after getting my truck but kept it on for about a week before I ripped it off and replaced it with a pair of anzo smoked leds! Did it cost a bit more? Ya... but it's still cheaper than having to replace the rear end of my truck!

New pics from this morning below. I've had it on for 50 weeks.

 

Bg what % tint did they install on your taillamps? IMO doesn't look too dark compared to stock. May be able to sneak this by the authorities here.

Plus if a ticket is issued this mod is easily reversible before appearing in court.

10%, although in practice it seems lighter. Not complaining, I like the smokey look that actually lets my lights show. Running lights (not brakes) shown below.

That looks great. Did you have an installer do it or DIY? I've got the standard tails and I worry about the complex curve in the center. Maybe I could heat gun and stretch it.

I had a window tint guy do it. I'm not that good at it myself.

Thanks! They definitely weren't cheap lol, I think for the taillights and the 3rd break light they were like $300

      Here's the second UOA on my 22 Wrangler with the Ecodiesel. This has 5k miles on AMSOIL Signature Series DEO 5w-40. The first one was dealer installed oil, no clue what it was, the second is what AMSOIL recommended, European FS 5w-40, Most of the Ecodiesel world is showing great results using the European MS 5w-40, I figured I would see how the DEO works. This is using an Ecoguard oil filter. It's my understanding this engine likes to shed aluminum.  We will see. So far I don't think this is too bad.

      I'm surprised nobody seems to offer a solution like the start/stop device I put in my new truck. Remembers my setting when shutdown. And while it still starts up in start/stop, it stores/evaluates what mode it was in when shut down and will change it whithin a second or 2 of startup. It'd be nice to have something like that for the DRLs.

      2015 Sierra 1500 here. Leaks from the sunroof to front driver side and soaks carpet. How do I fix this? Thanks!

      I will be doing that for sure, but I need to solve who has/ where I can find a bidirectional scan tool that will support OBD 1.5. I'm kicking myself because I ebay'ed a Snap On MT2500 that I didn't think I'd ever need anymore. D'oh!! I'd rather not buy another, so I'll contact a few local shops to see if they have one and how much they'd want to do the procedure. I'd rather have the ability to do it myself... I wish there was a modern tool that could do it all, but I'd have no idea what to buy.   The theory with the pulled timing is that it mimics a rich condition. The delayed spark causes incomplete burn and the O2 sensor picks up low oxygen levels. That's interpreted as a rich condition so the PCM pulls fuel and that shows up in the deeply negative fuel trims.
