Dealer trade offer lol

I would hold on to my current truck until this time next year if the 2500 isn't needed immediately. You will then have equity in your trade. If you need the truck now then you can tell the dealer you will pay more for the new truck if you can have more for your trade.

I have a 2014 GMC SLT with Z71 fully loaded and 55,000 miles in perfect condition (looks wise). Took it to the dealer a few weeks ago and was offered $30,500 for it. Thought it was a good deal but couldnt find a decent replacement at the time so I have held on to it

I'm guessing the OP was assuming he would get something closer to the retail on the 2500 he wants. People tend to over value the car they own and under value the car they want.

No was just hoping to simply be close to my payoff not 5k under.

Have you spoken to the financial person at the dealership? When I have been in similar situations, my experience is that the dealer will try their best to make it work. If you need a 2500 now then find one you like and have the dealer work it out for you. Most people can brag that they got a really good deal on their trade or they can boast about the price of their new vehicle but few can be thrilled with both. Your only real concern is if you can afford the price difference.

Dang... I know this isn't the same scenario but my 2015 Silverado LTZ (in my avatar) flooded here in Houston during Harvey and my insurance gave me $39k for it!

Go here, this is what the dealers use. It will cost you$10 for a week's access. Money well spent IMO if you're seriously looking to buy a car/truck

Around here they use the "Black Book" for values (which only a dealer can get, and is always about 1/3 less than Blue Book values)!

I'll guarantee KBB isn't what the dealer uses to value what they pay on trade ins,

I'll strongly disagree just due to my own personal experience when I discussed my trade, I saw the monitor and the numbers.

The last KB value was right on for my last few vehicles.

I'll wholeheartedly agree.

That's the entirely wrong way to purchase anything, Have your checkbook ready to go and get a bottom line price. If you don't like the price be ready to walk away...

Not around here, KBB is not used and they tell you that...

I knew going in the value of our Forester on KBB, they weren't even at the poor side of KBB costs when it was clearly in very good condition based on KBB descriptions.

When I questioned them on it, they stated KBB isn't used...I had several dealers tell me this, each one giving me a different value.

I bought my truck used at a dealer well under kbb value. I think I figured out what they do. When you run the vin it will tell you the sale price of the vehicle, not the msrp. The origional purchaser got an insane deal on it. The dealer I bought it from, a ford dealer, simply priced it off that.

I bought my 1 year old 6.2 all-terrain with 20k miles for $32k. The origional owner bought it for $40k. The dealer clearly just devalued it based off the purchase price.

Also I have to laugh at buying a high country with over 40k miles for $46k, that is ****ing nuts. Go to laura and buy a brand new denali for a couple thousand more.

Looking a VIN up on what shows purchase price?

Lol. Unless youre paying it all off with cash, youll have a monthly payment. Some people cannot go over a certain monetary amount due to a thing called bills.
