I'm looking into a GMC Sierra CCSB with the 5.3 and 8 speed transmission with eAssist. How are people liking them? I drive a couple miles to work and back. Anyone having any trouble with them? I really dislike the 19s and want something before that's all there is.

eAssist was California only, and 2wd only at that. Has that changed?

I had one for one day and returned it it’s not for me. You can’t feel it shut off but there is a thump when it starts back up. Idk I didn’t like it plus your sitting next to a 24 cell lithium ion battery pack in the jump seat.

I seriously considered the hybrid 5.3 in 2009.  It was the cost of battery replacement and the amount of space they took up that made me decide on the traditional setup.  It is unfortunate that the 19's don't appeal to you because I am guessing that DFM will have a similar impact on MPG.

Yes - that was 2016 I believe.

They make a 4WD/LTZ model now and my E-Assist was bought in Texas.  2017 model.

Honestly it's great.  If you're not going to tune, I'd say go E-Assist.  The auto-stop feature is easily manageable.

I will tell you that if you're looking @ adding Katzkin to an E-assist, the middle jump seat is actually longer than other models.  So you'll have to fab up a piece for the middle seat.  No lock box under the console either since the lithium battery is there.  Also the intake is different - so CAI and intake tubes will not fit/work without DIY modification...or moving the coolant to a different location.  All electronics are covered under 100k warranty.  Lithium battery & electric motor as well.

Got mine for $30k.  LT Crew Cab.  Steal of a deal.  Comes with a GM tri-fold bed cover too.

I've converted it into a LTZ for ~ $ 1500 (LED LTZ Headlights paint matched, grille paint matched, LED LTZ tail lights, Dl3 mirrors with auto-fold button, Katzkin leather interior).

Laura Buick GMC has some starting asound 41k and they are loaded. Dang near a Denali with the amount of extras in it without paying the full price. If all the battery stuff is covered under the warranty it may be well worth the price. I only put 1k a month on my truck now so it would last until I'm ready to trade it in.

I recently bought a 2018 Silverado and they first tried to get me in the Eassist due to all the discounts $44K truck down to $34 after everything, but after driving it and noticing the auto stop and start and then the rear end option only being a 3.08 and 8 speed...I passed on it and went with the regular LT with the 3.42 and 6 speed, will be better for towing my travel trailer and it seemed to have better get up and go vrs the Eassist felt sluggish. I dont think ill miss the extra 2MPG.

If so, then I won't be buying GM for my next truck.

Just sold my 2003 Silverado and bought a 2018 5.3L w/ eassist. Loving it so far. Did a bunch of research before buying so I knew what to expect. I give it a sec after letting off the brake before I ease into the gas pedal....I notice no clunking/thumping or hesitation. For those that may expect to just tromp on it once you see green you might have different results. Am enjoying an improvement in mileage and the hill assist is kinda slick. If and when I do tow a trailer I am sure the easssit motor will help when towing. The battery is kept below the jump seat and hence the locking compartment isn’t an option....but he underseat storage in he crew cab is sure nice. I had read somewhere that the lithium batt was stored under the back seat.....not true....the underseat storage unit fits nicely.

Be advised.....WeatherTech floor mats will not fit. I think they didn’t measure for an eassist model as the main problems are the location of the batt under the console.

I don't mind it, but if that system fails I wonder if it will affect anything else about the truck. Will I be up a creek with out a paddle?

Have a 2018 4x4 Silverado with eassist truck that I love but... when I apply light breaking pressure   the whole truck can start to shake(normally backing, 4x4 not engaged, under 3 mph, and not always). Brought it in for service/inspection and was told this was normal??

Other- get about 19-23 mpg, much better than my 2012 silverados 14mpg.

    • More is cylinder deactivation. Kia-Hyundai Ive had 4. The warranty is the same 10 years 100K miles. My grandson drives the first one 05 Elantra GT. My wife drives the second one 2011 Genesis. The Genesis still performs as new and looks great. The Elantra looks rough. He’s not kind to it. The third was a Genesis coup. The fourth was a Santa Fe. Those were my daily drivers. I don’t keep them long. Kia is the same as Hyundai with the same warranty. I looked at the K-4 today. Too small, otherwise pretty good buy. Most of Hyundai and Kia’s have a performance upgrade.
    • Thanks for the point of reference
    • Great question. Answer....depends. One the volume of the crankcase, the driver that will actually be using the vehicle and the amount it uses plus the distance expected for that next trip. Couple of for instances:   Wife is going to drive Dizzy to Moline and back plus a bit around town so say 500 miles on the day. I know from years with that SUV that around town and local rural it uses about a quart in 1250 miles. But on the Interstate and her at the wheel without her anchor nagging her she'll push it and it will drop a quart in about 800 miles. Hence, around town I wait to somewhere between a quarter down to a quart down. On her trip I'd top it if it was down a few ounces and hope for the best.    Have I overfilled one? You mean by adding before it needs a full quart I assume. No, not once after finding the true fill mark.  I know the dipsticks of everything I drive and add what it needs. I learn this by doing the first oil change a quart low. Run the motor for a few minutes. Let it sit over night. Check and mark. Then add half a cup at a time making note of the place on the stick. I add through the dipstick tube with a barbeque basting bottle. Give it a few minutes to drain down and check again.    A vehicle like Dizzy that uses this much oil will take a few quarts between 3K changes. I keep one in the vehicle with the bottle and a bag. (Mindful of it's fullness) Not a big deal and never makes a mess of it. There is no such thing as "multiple quarts' in my shop for any specific oil. There will be a maximum however of the number of different oils used over the fleet.     Dizzy holds a nominal 5 quarts. So the first fill was indeed over as it actually took 4.75. My vehicles are fit with Valvomax valves so I can meter an ounce on the drain if need be. Found her mark first crack at it. Never to be repeated.    Pepper uses none between changes so I don't keep a quart in that one. Straight up 6 quarts put her dead on the full line. Check it ever fuel stop. They will surprise you when they start using.    Raven holds 3 liters or 5.44 ounces over three quarts. I add 3 quarts and 6 ounces. That gives me 5 oil changes on my orphan quart.    Lawnmower holds about 3/5 of a quart. I don't over fill it to prevent an orphan. So yea, depends.
    • 185k on original 6.2L engine and 10 speed. 6" lift with 35" tires. Changed oil (Mobil 1 synthetic) when truck told me to. Original tranny with original fluid and no service or flush done. All highway miles. A/C compressor replaced at 155k. Oil cooler line replaced at 180k. Still daily driver. Love this truck.   This is my 3rd 6.2L vehicle (2008 Yukon Denali / 2018 Cadillac Escalade) with over 150k miles and no issues. Denali had broken motor mount at 100k.
