2017 Red Hot color- fades? potential new buyer

I missed out on the great incentives on the 2018 Silverado that ended yesterday, but the dealer has some 2017's left and are discounting them heavily to move them. They have two of the Red Hot in color, but I"m curious how the red holds up regarding fade over the years. I had a 2010 Tacoma that was red and when I traded it in January 2017 I could see slight fade in it. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Everything fades sooner or later.  Go for it.

Hello, I have the 2017 Sierra with the Crimson Red Tintcoat and it looks amazing. It’s a colour that GMC is not making any more which is why I like it, you won’t see a lot of them on the road. road. The colour looks different with the sun, shade etc. I don’t think you will have any problems. Take care of it keeping it clean and the odd wax job. I don’t think you can go wrong and people will be asking you all the time, what is the colour and man that’s a beautiful colour. Hope the helps you a bit. Be safe

My 2018 Sierra SLT Premium in Red Quartz tintcoat that I believe was new for 2018 and slightly lighter than the crimson red or cajun red. Really shines when clean and we do get compliments.

Wash your truck for God’s sake. Paint only fades bc it’s filthy and disgusting. Get a detailer over to your house and pay him to put a coating or sealant on the truck. Ffs.

I'm going to disagree here because I'm OCD and kept my previous red Tacoma clean, only hand washed, never an automatic car wash, and waxed twice a year. Age and constant sun while parked at work will eventually do it, my post is in reference to Silverado's/Sierra's red fading reviews from those that have them.

That is a nice looking truck! The red on the '17 Silverado Red Hot looks more red than crimson like yours.

You need to be washing weekly 12 months outta the year and using a good synthetic sealant like Adams polishes offers quarterly and a sealant booster at least once in between the sealant. My truck has 42k miles on it and I get compliments all the time and ppl are amazed it’s not new.

I would also say that at least 2x a year you should be clay baring the truck and at least once a year giving it a good polish with a machine not by hand.

Unless you do all that it’s gonna be worse for the wear eventually.

You said it yourself. Wax twice a year. Carnauba wax does not last 6 months. A good wax job MIGHTTTT last 90 days and that’s stretching it especially here in Florida close to the ocean. That’s your problem you only waxed twice a year on shitty Toyota paint and probably never clay barred your truck. I don’t know what I’m talking about I only run a detailing company.

Well I didn't realize you wanted to get technical when I used the word "wax". I've used Wolfgang products for years and have clay barred my truck. And, to be clear, it wasn't "waxed" twice a year, Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant and have also used the Wolfgang Uber Ceramic coating on my more recent car. But what do I know, I don't own a detailing company...

Lol you said you waxed it twice a year so I took the information you provided and came up with an educated guess, based off YOUR words. Wolfgang isn’t that great imo. You said wax nothing about a clay or anything so

I get it, everyone is entitled to their opinion on products. And I only offered up a response based on your original comment. I'm only interested in knowing from current Silverado/Sierra owners with exterior color red how it is holding up regarding fade, especially those that are parked outside in the sun. But thanks for your feedback on how to maintain a new-like appearance longer.

Yeah but was a Toyota.  They have never been known to have awesome paint and rust prevention.

I had a 2008 'impulse red' Tacoma for 10 years, 185k miles. It was never garaged and looked beautiful after 10 years. Like yours, waxed twice a year.

If the deal is good and you like the bright red, go for it. I wouldn't worry about the longevity of a paint color stop me. Keep it clean and waxed like you've been doing. Perhaps have it ceramic coated.

I have a 16 in Red Hot. No issues with fading, but I don't expect to have any fading issues in only 2 years of being outside. The truck has never been garaged and I haven't been the best at washing and waxing the truck. It has been in and out of the dealer a lot for various electrical issues and transmission issues, and I haven't actually had much hands on time with the truck to detail it properly.

I see plenty of older Victory Red Silverados that don't have fading issues, so I am not concerned with the longevity of the paint.
