Cupton Posted October 25, 2018 Author Posted October 25, 2018 UPDATE I've got good news and I've got bad news. The good news is that my truck will be in the shop soon after being rear-ended this past weekend so I can have them take care of this idiot scratch (on my dime of course). The bad news? I got rear-ended this past weekend. Nothing major, but most likely will be getting a new bumper put on.
Crstfr Posted October 25, 2018 Posted October 25, 2018 made it 2 yrs in my truck.. hit a curb parking.. got a nice little ding in passenger side front rim~..grrr.. .. 1/2 a yr in.. loading a chair into the back of the truck from the side... truck was backed into my parking garage... .chair slipped.. dent size of a quarter on the passenger side bed~.grrrr
tgg19 Posted October 25, 2018 Posted October 25, 2018 I have a couple small spots on my GMC 20". I got them mostly when I had the stock Goodyears on. Worst tire. I replaced with Michelin X LT A/S from Costco. They have been great tires. Much better grip in wet and the sidewall sticks out a bit protecting the rim slightly. I did scrap my wife's less than month old Honda Pilot rim last year. She didn't notice for a few months but when she did, I got an ear full. She has 20" rims as well so looked on ebay and found a single for ~$230. The place claims they buy from a Honda dealership for vehicles that have upgraded wheels put on prior to sale. It has worked well and I now have a rim to make a full size spare out of.
Cupton Posted December 10, 2018 Author Posted December 10, 2018 I probably should of thought of this a couple months ago before winter hit, but should I treat these scratches with clearcoat to help prevent corrosion until I can get it repaired?
426ted Posted December 11, 2018 Posted December 11, 2018 I wouldn't worry about it. The crappy rims will do that on their own. I have corrosion starting on 2 of my rims. 2016 w/ 90,000km on it. Very little snow over the last 2 years. In fact, I don't think that I actually needed 4 wheel drive yet in this truck.
Supreme Pizza Posted December 11, 2018 Posted December 11, 2018 Based on the tire's DOT date code, that is a VERY new vehicle (assuming those are OEM tires).

Dang, that’s some very good investigative work right there! At the time my truck was very new and had about 500 miles on it. And those were in fact the OEM Goodyear SRA tires. The tires are long gone now but the scratch remains. My truck has carried that scratch for 4,500 miles and my heart still hurts. ?
Ge0rge Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 Curbed a wheel today on a tight turn out of a lot. Sucks but fixable for less than $150.

Ge0rge Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 The story to tell here is I fouled up. I have to fix it, my OCD is currently over the top.

Oh, I’ve priced a new wheel as well as a new set of black OEM 18s if I decide to go that route eventually. I blame myself for mine too. Biggest bummer was my wife was in the car when it happened.

But in the end it's about keeping the tire off the curb altogether.
CadillacLuke24 Posted March 25, 2019 Posted March 25, 2019 Glad to see I'm not the only one who goes nuts over wheel scratches. I've replaced two wheels for scraping the crap out of them after sliding into the "gutter" on a dirt road with some good banking, I've had one replaced due to the tire shop being morons. I think I'm finally on my lifetime set, all 4 new with new center caps, and they were put on in January. There's a couple rock chips here and there, but those are unavoidable, and that I can live with. One day though, may have to reclear them in Axalta Urethane Clear
SlowGMC Posted March 25, 2019 Posted March 25, 2019 125$ and a good wheel shop will look like never happened
BigBadSierra Posted March 25, 2019 Posted March 25, 2019 It could have been worse. cost me $4K all said in done. Repairs to get home From Kentucky to Canada then two rims and tires. Front Back.
