285/45R22 Tire choice is limited, any real usage recomendations?

1.  I already own the truck and am just looking for recs from people who have used this tire size before.

2. I already know there are many out there that don't like the 22s, but refer to 1.

3. I live in WI so snow does come into play

4. I do tow snowmobile trailer and boat now and then, but nothing too heavy. 

5. I put Advanta ATX-750s on my plow truck and like them, but that's a 16 wheel.

6. The Bridgestone's that are on there now have treated me good.

Noise,  kind of important.  Don't want loud for sure

Appearance,  not much tire showing anyways but as long as it looks like a truck tire, I'm good.

Traction,  I live in WI so all season is a must

Tread life, would love a hi mileage tire, but I do understand that when you get into the low profile stuff, that's a tough one.

 

So any real world advice would be greatly appreciated.

this size tire sucks. there is a very limited supply. 

the only one I have found that may work for you is the nitto terra grappler g2.

i am in a similar situation. 

i am looking at 20" wheels for the simple fact there are many more tires to choose from

I am currently running 285/55R22 Nitto Terra Grappler G2 tires. I found them much smoother than the OE Bridgestone's. They are stiffer being 10ply but I prefer that. They also come with a 55k warranty which is important to me as I drive 100 miles a day for work. I am very pleased with them. They were very reasonable too! I got the set for less than $1900 out the door with road hazard!!

if you are looking for a beefy tire, the Nitto Ridge Grappler are really good tires, aggressive tread pattern and look great while not having the annoyances of the Toyo MT's. Terra Grapplers are great tires as well.

Nitto Terra Grappler in that size is also a good option. Less chunk but very quiet and a great ride

Same problem. The stock Bridgestones are disappointing. I did get GM to pay for two and I paid for 2 so I had to go through the dealer to get them. My choices were either another set of Bridgestone RT H-S, Alenzas, or Michelin Defenders. I went with the Michelins. I miss the aggressive tread, but the truck rides better on the highway.

those are 285/55 (34.37" tall) and not 285/50 (33.27" tall)???

I am using

yokohama 305/45r22 118v with no rubbing issues.

Bumping this up.  Getting much closer to tire time for me.  Thanks to all that have replied.  Also wondering if there is another forum section I should have put this post in?  Not the best with this forum yet, still learning my way around.

I have the 285 45 22's Bridgestone Dueler AT RHS's that came on on my truck and I think they are a good all around tire.

I'm in Minnesota so I see plenty of snow and I'm not dissatisfied with them.

At Discount Tires they are $255 each.  So for a little over a grand not going to break you.

I think the AT RHS's are a pretty good tire. It's always fun to try something new, but I just may replace them with the RHS's again. They have great reviews on tirerack too. Seem to be one of the better oem tire offerings. Usually oem tires are garbage.

Does anyone know the rim width for the GMC 22" rims that came on the black pack? They have the same 285/45-22 tire on them.

      I have a basic 2026 1500 WT  (2.7L/4WD reg cab shorttbed). Comfy, generally happy with electronics/radio - but is there a way I can add switches to steering wheel right-side position (curr. empty) so I can adjust volume, push phone button to voice dial, etc? Bill W San Jose

      The curb weight on a 1 ton crew cab long bed is around 7k lbs.  Now, I don't know where you went to school but 9k is not more than 2x 7k lbs. More than 2x 7k lbs would be 14k+.   With that said, obviously yes you're going to feel a 9k lb trailer when slowing down.  I already said, when accelerating.  When changing lanes?  No.  But if you look at the context of what was quoted, the original person said, "after a mile or two..." which means that would be after the accelerating portion and you're driving a generally steady pace.  Please do learn to read and comprehend.

      So I purchased the Range unit for my 2026 and I am seeing different locations suggested for the ECM . Can anyone confirm wither under hood, left side or right side or behind the wheelwell?

      Like I've said before. Di and Carbon buildup is not that big of a concern. Engine had minimal buildup, and that engine was obviously not super well maintained. Do regular oil changes, and you're gtg as long as the rest of the truck lasts. Also, the High Pressure FP that people ****** about, but can't tell you why.  Now, I wish they'd trash the variable oil pump. No real world issues with them, but I'll gladly eat whatever miniscule MPG it's saving me in favor of more oil at all RPMs.    Curious to see his assessment of the 7.3 compared to the 6.6. I expect he'll praise the port inj, but from a structural standpoint, the 6.6 is as robust as any engine out there.    Not to take away from the 7.3. I feel it's equally as good as the 6.6.     As to heat on the rear cyls, I'd have to see numerous examples before I'd say it's an issue. Especially not knowing the history of that engine. For all is known, they could have blown a rad hose, and ran it hot, and the 2 rear cyls may be the first to get hot in a low coolant situation, but not be an issue aside from that.

      "Life is getting back to normal."    I'm driving again and all new joints are operating as expected for this stage of recovery.   My most recent joint replacement still requires a lot of attention but experience has taught me that time will quiet the remaining pain.  I joked with my surgeon that another joint replacement would take my mind off my most recent surgery and he responded by saying the next will be a hip!  There are no plans for another surgery but, unlike me, I don't think he was joking!  I certainly wouldn't refuse further replacement  if required but hope to spend time out of the "post-op"  period.  I can't stress enough that if you have been recommended for total hip, knee or shoulder replacement that you welcome the offer.  Post-op "recovery" may sound daunting and painful, however, this is far better than the insidious erosion of mobility you are currently experiencing.  Imagine what it would feel like to wake up most mornings feeling better and more mobile than you did the previous day!  Prior to my first surgery in June 2025, even getting out of bed was becoming a formidable task.  Since the day after my first surgery, I get out of bed everyday easily and unassisted.  Making the switch to feeling a little better each day rather than a little worse, is hugely motivating!
