Reliability is my main concern.

There isn’t a more reliable and simple car than a Thai built Mirage.

Thanks Grumpy and OntheReel for sharing about that here.

I can’t even imagine. My slowest is 8.2 to 60 the avalanche. The fastest my wife’s Genesis low 5s. Even the odyssey is in the 7s to 60. Even though I lean more towards comfort than speed these days. Acceleration is a very close second.

Yeah, all depends what the vehicle is for. Toys are one thing but bumming around town I don’t need anything crazy. My Jeep is in the 7s too and it feels plenty snappy with the 8 speed and the gearing it has. Highway passing could be better but the laws of physics come into play on a vehicle of it’s size and heft.

I don’t think I’d personally be satisfied with the Mirage’s acceleration but like I said, I’ve had way slower and never felt like I was in danger or anything. Granted, all the vehicles around it have gotten much quicker in the years since.

Most of my roads are 75 MPH and up. The exception is in town. I’m 20 minutes to I-45. Even the secondary roads to 1-10 are 70 MPH and up. Even grandma will get mad if you don’t get moving. I know because I’m married to one. She’s been driving a sports car or sedan since she started driving. She learned a stick shift driving a Barracuda. I created a monster. Around here that’s the norm. She drove her mom’s CRV once. And handed me the keys. I can’t think of one person in the family that drives a slow car. If I lived in NJ the way the roads are a slow car with a stick would be livable. Here in Texas, not so much.

I don’t purchase cars for Texans driving styles.

I lived there a decade working for Chevron. It never budged me from my lane. Everyone can drive theirs. I drive mine. Get mad, get loud...I should care why? Them guys paying my bills?

I'm with you on this Stan!  Other than the driver and good brakes and tires, more than adequate acceleration is vastly under-rated as a safety feature, I don't have to give examples, we've all been there.

I remember my Drivers Education instructor, Mr. Williams words, "Bear right and brake, there is no exception in defensive driving". We did endless panic stops to gravel shoulders.

Based on physics. Lower speeds lower energy on impact. Everyone goes right is a move to a safe area. If you can't avoid head on, then limit overlap. We were taught that while driving a scan to see an escape route is a life saver.

I find that today speed is not the enemy. It's the attitude of drivers that believe THEY are the most important person in the world. Ignore stop signs. Lane markings. Speed Limits, No passing zones. Unyielding. Self important, rude and dangerous.

They should bring back the blood and guts horror movies they showed in Drivers Education. Iowa has a good one on being RIGHT.....Dead Right.

IMHO people who think a 700 hp Hellcat is the only thing that should be allowed on the road and cannot share that road with a 36 HP Beatle....that is the definition of self important.

Just need to swap out the driver's seatbelt and airbag that's in the steering wheel for a steel spike.  Driver's will be somewhat more cautious...

5 QTs Amsoil 0w20

Amsoil EA15K19 99% efficient @20um oil filter cartridge installed GENTLY as not to crack or damage housing that is plastic.
0 consumed oil. Amsoil 0w20 much better on cold start with lower oil pressure and no start up noise.

@OnTheReel you convinced me that FCA is the real deal. TY. THIS JEEP UNIT IS WELL BUILT AND TIGHT. I’ve never had a Jeep before but when I strap into this I feel like I’m in a 1970’s sprint car again. The full display of engine instruments on digital panel as steam gauges is wonderful. The steering is like a quick steer racing set up. I bought this used and got almost $10,000 off sticker at Greenville Texas Chrysler.
Thanks again.

So, you went to Texas to get a good deal on a vehicle? I hope you weren’t too stressed out! 😆

Yes sir Stan ! 😂 It’s where DysonAnalysis was based for 35 years in Cash, Texas. Raised my kids there and there’s a crop of grandkids sprouting up.

Yes,  the politics skins my sensibilities because I remember blue dog Texas that was welcoming and kind but firm.

I flew in for Thanksgiving but couldn’t hitch a flight back with American Airlines who I also retired from so I fly space available as a benefit of being a retiree.
So needed a way to get home and this deal was just too good to pass up.
I have fond memories of Greenville and my excellent church there I was a Deacon in.

I hope you’re able to witness the next few years with an open and unbiased mind. I for one couldn’t be more excited. I wouldn’t be able to buy a home in my neighborhood these days like I was 25 years ago. Only because of the rapid growth around here. It’s amazing to watch especially since I don’t have to deal with traffic during its peak. My kids will be much better off because of our choices and father’s decision to leave NJ for Texas. The mountains of Colorado are amazing a great retirement choice. Unfortunately my wife is anti cold. So I remain inside during the heat and make good this time of the year.

I’m still kind of a GM guy at heart (since childhood) but I love my current Mopars much more than any late model GM I’ve owned. And now that Tavares is finally out as CEO, probably only going to get better.

Let me know how the Amsoil performs.

    • I was around and remember that era very well, so I'm calling b/s on that statement. If they were that bad no police department or taxi company would've bought a single one ... but they were used in both services (and fire) for DECADES. They were bulletproof and proven. Even the early 21st century ones weren't too bad! The early models were legendary.   Mine is proof, but people like atlas are blinded by agenda and refuse to believe facts right before their very eyes.   Even decades after they were built, a new generation started driving them, posting all their builds and shenanigans on Grandmarq.net and Crownvic.net. The failures would show up then, since they all were deep past 100k-150k miles by that point, and younger drivers tend to be a little aggressive, especially with vehicles than can lay a one-tire fire for as long as you hold your foot in it. They've more than proven themselves over the decades.   The only thing that'll really take them out is road salt. The bodies and sheet metal were garbage. A victim of the cheapout FoMoCo and GM have been partaking in before then, and since.   Today it's the stuff that counts - the undercarriage that rots away first!    GMs Caprice was no slouch either. Reliable as a stone ax - the opposite of what they build now.
    • Let me know how your vehicles do in 10 years. You don't know ******, kid. 😂    There's a reason that Panther platform was used as police, fire, and taxi service for DECADES ... long before you were born, apparently.
    • If your connector also has a big lever to get the connector on and off, you don't want to force the lever either way, as it becomes a bigger problem if you bust the lever or the mechanism it works.
    • It's just useful to disconnect the battery to prevent odd shorting out when unplugging/plugging stuff together.  I also  touch the two cable ends together (after disonnecting) to drain the small amount of stored battery energy in various modules.   I believe the main system where you need to be more concerned with, so you need to do the above and then wait some time, iss when you are working on the air bag system, to prevent inadvertent firing of the air bags.   The in-cab switches are just that, plain switches, it's generally not a problem to swap them in/out.  For my '12, I'll get an error message on the dash if I power up the truck w them unplugged, but that's it (power up= turn the ignition on).   The ITBC located above the spare tire is a computer that manages the trailer brake system.  That is probably more important to have the battery disconnected.  It does have to be programmed to the truck, either before or after it's installed, for it to work.  For my '12, I had a very hard time reinstalling the main connector to it (IDK if yours is the same or not), it turned out the silicon seal was jamming up, preventing it from going on all the way.  I finally got it fully installed by lubing the seal with a bit of dielectric grease, then it slid on and latched in place easily.
    • JR ! I just got the truck back from the Dealership today . The technician did a cold remote start on the truck this morning and it made the noise . It was determined that it was a starter issue and replaced it under warranty . Of course   it did not make the sound after a new starter was put in because the truck was not cold . We will we see what happens tomorrow morning when I start the truck cold  . Keep tuned !   Oh I found a video on YouTube of a cold start and it did the same thing your truck and mine do , I will see if I can find it and post it up
