Traded for a 2018

I had a 2009 Sierra SLE that I bought new for $34k (including tax) that I just traded for a 2018 SLE.  My 2014 Ford Escape was totaled in a hail storm so they gave me $10500 to keep it.  It only has 58k miles so that's a heckuva deal.  I have a bit of buyer's remorse now, LOL.  The old truck had almost 109k miles never had a single issue.  I really only used it for hunting.  I recently put new tires on it and a GM mechanic friend replaced the upper and lower control arms and front/rear brakes.  I'd also put on new tires less that 1k miles ago. 

 

I was pretty specific in what I wanted in the new truck.  No black, white or red, crew cab, spray in liner and a standard box with factory brake controller.  Basically, my same truck with a standard vs short bed.  I went to two different dealers in Denver and did a bunch of searching online.  The first place had lots of black and white 2018 trucks.  All the 2019's were to fully deck out trucks which I had no intention of buying.  If the price were right I'd probably have bought one but no-go. 

 

The next day I went to another dealer that had my exact truck advertised at $44k.  Of course, it was sold the day before (LOL).  I told them what I wanted and they found one in Cheyenne which even had the all weather floor mats which I always put in my trucks.  I told them $41k plus tax, $15k for my truck, have it that afternoon and swap the new tires off my old truck and we have a deal.  Of course they added their "fees" which were $617 so the let me walk.  I ended up driving to Cheyenne that evening (1.5 hour drive) and bought it direct at what I wanted to pay.

 

The new truck is basically the exact same truck I had.  The silver color is lighter and the interior has more black with grey seats (old one was all grey).  I had added a nice stereo system with nav and an auxiliary battery in the old one which I won't do to this one for a while.  The two things I wish I had thought about before buying were having a nav unit and 3.42 gears.  The new one has 3.08.  I don't drive in the mountains often and tow a 2k trailer a half dozen times a year.  I spend more time on the prairie chasing birds so >90% of the mileage is highway miles.  I keep a dog box in the bed with a topper, bed mat and (I figured this out cleaning out the old truck) about 500 pounds of crap.  A buddy has a 2017 and I'd driven it last year and noticed how much more get up and go it had over my 2009.  My 2018 is about the same in that dept as my 2009 and now I know why, 3.08 gears.  It's not a deal breaker but, as I see lots of others on this site, is not an uncommon things to overlook.

 

I've ordered seat covers and will be looking at toppers today.  I had some 3M clear bra left over from covering my expedition trailer so I went ahead and put it on the truck.  Much more involved with all the curves but still looks good and it was free.

 

Now, let's see if I keep this one for 10 years like the last one.  I paid cash for the 09 and financed this one.  That's gonna be painful for a while.

Nice, congrats on the new truck!     I've had my 2018 Silverado 1500 LTZ 4x4 CC for about a month and a half, and I am still very impressed with build and ride quality - about ready to pass 3K miles.   My last 3 trucks were F250/F350 diesel SuperDutys, but I'm not towing anymore and the new F150's are too damn ugly.  So Chevy it is, and I'm glad I crossed over.  =)

 

Really looking forward to the winter -- my other vehicle is a '17 Prius Prime (150 mile daily commute) and it doesn't do snow.   LOL.

I just ordered a new topper. $3k vs the $1700 for the 09. So, $10k more for the truck and $1300 more for the topper. Things have gotten way expensive in 10 years!

I found the window sticker and it turns out I do have 3.42 gears. With no RPO sticker in the glove box and the QR code in the door jamb not giving all the RPO codes it’s tough to figure out what’s in these trucks!

That’s definitely good news.

I wish GM hadn’t quit putting the RPO codes in the glove box. Now I’ll have to try and remember to get a build sheet from the dealership when I buy my next one.

All of a sudden your truck felt a whole lot perkier!  I went from a '09 SLE  with a 5.3 V8 (3.42) to a '15 SLE with a 4.3 V6 (3.42).  There was no noticeable change in power.  Going from a Vortec 5.3 to an Ecoboost 5.3 (with all other things being equal) should be noticeable.  You'll definitely notice improved fuel economy.    Enjoy your new truck!

Email [email protected] requesting the build sheet for your VIN they will send you back a PDF file listing all the RPO codes + build date & factory it was built at.

 

Also if your looking at any GM accessories go to Chevy Truck Legends .com  and see if you qualify to be a “legend” if you do you get a code for 20% off accessories.

Thanks for the info on the build sheet.  I emailed them and got one.  Interestingly, the truck was built October, 2017.  I know the truck was at another dealer that closed and this place bought the inventory but it’s hard to believe it still only had 12 miles on it.
