Looking to replace stock shocks

I’d like to replace my stock shocks for something that can perform a bit better off-road. Stock is way too soft. I was looking at Fox shocks but I have no experience with truck suspension. I’ve come from the Jeep world. Any help is much appreciated.

Bilsteins seem to be the choice on here. There is a thread if you do a search.  They are well liked.

There is a Fox thread on here as well.

I upgraded a 2018 LTZ from the z71 Rancho to the Fox PS2.0, as soon as I got home from the first 500mile road trip. Couldn't be happier. Much better handling, bump absorption, and washboard control. Allowed me to lift the back 1" (replaced spacers), and level the front with the coil over adjustment. 8k so far and would buy a second set if I ever need to.

I have no experience with Fox shocks, can't comment on them.  I personally can recommend the BIlstein 5100's.  I put them on my 2014 and it radically changed the ride.  I plan on installing them on my 2018 when the stock Rancho's shoot craps.

I have the Bilstein 5100 all around with max lift on the front, waaaay better and stiffer but in a good way.

Ditch the stocks. There are guys replacing brand new Ranchos soon after buying the truck if that tells you anything.

It’s no different than the Jeep world.

If you’re going to really off-road, then get an off-road shock.

Slow speeds are likely fine with an IFP 2-inch shock.

But if you want more control, then consider an external rezzie for more valving, as well as a larger shock body.

Figure out your budget and go from there.

Lots of guys are happy with a 5100 shock off-road.

And some guys think the step up to a Fox or King 2.5” shock is worth it after experiencing both.

Bilstein 5100 or 4600

Do not look back.

Unless you want to spend upwards of 1k on the fancier Fox,Icon, King etc.

I have bilstein 5100s (FYI these are adjustable height shocks fronts have 3 height setting tallest = about 2" lift & do not drastically alter UCA angles so easier on ball joints/bushings vs. a cheapo garbage block leveling kit) + the rears allow for additional 1" of clearance so I added a 2.25" rear block for additional height in rear & still have some rake in the stance)  - you can buy these for around $300-$400 shipped & are well worth the $$$$ - they are gas charged & ride firmer in a good way (better handling in corners) yet absorb bumps/ruts w/ way less hopping about from rear end & absorb alot more of the impact than the stock crap.

Another option that doubles as small lift/adjustable height shocks is Eibach - IMO of equal quality to the bilstein units but a little pricier however their version can come w/ springs for the front - if they were readily available when I bought the bilstein 5100s I may have gone w/ them instead. American made - $350-$450 or so I believe. Also well worth it.

Both versions will be better at absorbing/controlling offroad situations due to better damping/shock rates + the fact you will gain clearance. FWIW I have had the bilsteins on for 50k miles now (removed my stock ranchos @ 5-6k) & they ride the same as when first installed. One recommendation I have if you get them is before install spray them down w/ clear coat as they're a brushed stainless body & it helps keep them nice looking even when getting blasted w/ salt/sand during winter.
