I set up diagnostic texts on the MyChevrolet.com site. Should be the same user name and password as the app. I haven't explored the app in depth, it may give you that ability as well. I get a text when my alarm is triggered and when oil life / brake life is low.

Which is cool. But God help your soul if you remote start. ?

Purchased a 'used' 2019 Yukon XL. We have had it 9 weeks only... 5 times so far we have turned it on and the power steering warning came on and the power steering was completely disabled. Also a handful of times we go to start it and it grinds.

It has been at the dealer since the end of last week, they say nothing is wrong.. no codes are populating and I can pick it up tomorrow. I am beyond furious because I want it fixed and clearly it is a recurrent issue when you can google the problem and see many similar issues! Tried talking to them, explaining my frustration and I was told I can come there, start the vehicle and show them myself. Are they not listening that it happens at random?? I am so irritated and want to just trade in my new vehicle.

Figured I’d go ahead and add to the list of issues.  My 19 RST with 15k miles is having the same problem everyone else is. Noticed a burning electrical smell yesterday while driving down the highway and figured it was someone around me. Today, the truck ran fine until I went to a doctor appointment and came out and had no power steering and a ESC error message. Sitting here waiting on a tow to the dealership as I’m writing this. Couldn’t be more pissed off. Power cycled the truck and it’s working, but I’m not going to risk driving it. Will update after the dealership tells me what’s going on.

Gina, First of all, try a different dealer if possible. Second if the power assist stops or the power steering lites come on, try getting it to the dealership without turning the vehicle off so the techs can see the problem. It is hard for the techs to diagnose a problem if the error codes reset or do not appear, and the steering appears to operate normally. The grinding sounds like the starter staying engaged.

This happened to me once, last week, also with my recently purchased "used" 2019 GMC Yukon.  Except I couldn't drive it, either.  In addition to the power steering not working, my transmission would not shift into drive or reverse.  Also, my tachometer was dead even though the engine was running, and so was the oil pressure gauge and coolant temperature gauge as well.  All were reading nothing with the exception of battery voltage and the fuel gauge, even though the engine was started.  I also noticed that my automatic headlights were not turning on, and the heated seats did not work.  The last warning light on my dash was the amber/yellow stabilitrac light towards the very bottom of the analog speedometer gauge.

After power cycling a handful of times and running out of options, I had to call GM Roadside Assistance to have it towed.  But, the tow truck took so long to arrive, that by the time the tow truck arrived, everything was back to normal.  It went in to the dealership and they found nothing wrong since there were no codes.  They performed the TSB that relates to a partial list of my problems, but said they found nothing wrong with any connections, so I highly doubt that did anything at all.

I also had my battery tested at the local auto parts store and they said it checks out, so I'm at a loss.  It has only happened once so far but that was in the first 4 weeks of ownership.  GM's recommendation is just to have it towed again if it happens again.  I asked, what if I'm hundreds of miles away or in a "bad area?"  What do I do, if I really need to leave, but I can't?  I would have to say that my confidence has been squashed.  Will the next ignition cycle be the one that leaves me stranded again?

I did catch this event on video, but even the dealership didn't care to see it, because they said that it has to act up while in their hands for them to be able to do any more.  That's how it works with warranty repairs and how they are reimbursed by corporate.  It's not just GM, I am sure it would be this way anywhere.  If there's no problem at the time when it is not in the shop and no active trouble codes, they just send you down the road again.

It seems like most of you with the power steering issue are not experiencing the additional issues that I am.  Anyone else?

OnStar most likely will only be able to see what your dealer can see with their diagnostic equipment, or even less.  I'm not really sure.  Maybe they can only see what codes you have when your check engine light is on (like a code reader) and that's it.  Who knows because I don't.

Anyway, in regards to finding a different dealer, what do you think they are going to do differently?  This is warranty repair, not a customer willing to pay for hours and hours and hours of diagnostic.  Any dealer would treat this the same.  No symptoms or codes at the time of visit, they do some checks, look for TSBs, and send you on your way.  It's not their fault but that's just how it is structured.  I recommend and call on EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU to call General Motors or Chevrolet customer service and report your problems.  I spoke to two different people at General Motors for about twenty minutes each.  They said they would be calling me back or emailing me back to take a look at my video but unfortunately that has not happened yet.  It is what must be done if any of us are to wish for a positive outcome and not having to worry about being stranded in the distant future.

I have a 2019 Denali 1500 I just bought as a dealer hold over, I bought it with 8 miles on it. At 3,208 Just tonight while at work (I use my truck at work as somewhat of a mobile office in the field in North Dakota) I started the truck and all the error codes mentioned above popped up in reference to the speed being reduced to 62 mph and brake system failure and so on so forth. Check engine light came on as well. I immediately shut the truck off and restarted and was only greeted with the trailer light service warning and then drove the truck but experienced no operating issues but check engine light is still on and I have not driven over 25 mph or over probably 2 miles since the warning lights. When I start it now no warnings pop up but the engine light is still on which may go away as I drive more from what I read from a previous post. GM really has seemed to of turned into quite the horrible company as of recently. I bought the truck because I couldn’t get parts to fix my ‘17 Silverado for over two months now that one has been at the dealer with the engine dismantled. I am just sour with GM on all aspects at this point and really am starting to wonder what a guy could even do at this point they seem to not care about their customers they’re attempting to kill them off by designing faulty brake systems apparently!

My husband is the Service Manager at a Chevy Dealership and was unaware of this issue until it happened yesterday (Dec. 28th) twice while en route with travel trailer and children on our 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500 High Country.  1st occurrence triggered service ESC, trailer brake, brake pad monitor, traction control, ABS, power steering reduced, engine power reduced.  Limped to Chevy dealership after calling Onstar to try to find info.  Dealership showed open recall from Dec. 19th.  They completed recall and could not determine any other cause of failure.  We headed out with trailer.  Happened again 60 miles in.  All messages including speed limited to 62 mph.  Managed to safely stop at a place outside Atlanta.  Towed truck and trailer with AAA as GM offered no assistance.  We did not advise that he is a service manager as to not receive special treatment.  Told a senior advisor would get back to us in 2 business days which may be Thursday as they could not confirm whether Dec 31 is a holiday.  It was above the supervisor’s pay grade.  We’ll update after we hear from the dealership in TN where the truck and trailer were towed.  Prior to reading this thread, he was stating he thinks the problem will be in the electronic brake module, engine module or a bad connection with a wire in a harness. Stay tuned and we all may finally find a fix. He did say that due to the computers being networked, that multiple issues could result in all the same warning lights coming on.  Stay tuned!

Very curious to know what they’ve figured out with yours, I drive 1,000 miles each way to and from work two weeks In between each time so I’m already so sour with GM with the problems of getting parts for my ‘17 I’m not having another truck sit in the shop waiting on parts for god knows how long.

I, like so many others was experiencing the same issue. My truck sat at the dealership waiting for GM to come out with a computer update, which eventually came out on 01-22-20. Tell your dealership to reference the update via TSB PIT5728B. They performed this on my truck on 01-24-20 and  I’ve had no issues since. Good luck.

It seems to me that nearly all of these issues are electrical in nature.  There's a YouTube mechanic by the name of South Main Auto.  He was working on a 2017 Chevrolet Colorado.  He mentioned that as of late he has been getting quite a few 2017-2018 Chevrolet and GMC models in that have broken wires, mid-harness, beneath all of the virgin protective wraps and coatings, and he can't understand what is going on.  Wonder what is happening electrically with GM products these past few years.

I cannot turn the wheel  to drive the vehicle when it does this, I had attempted last time just to see. And the dealer is the nearest, even though it is still a hike! Thank you though for your suggestion.
