STARTING MY LEMON LAW CLAIM:   After multiple attempts to get my intermittent screen going blank in my 2019 Silverado, I have decided to move forward with a Lemon Law claim and am working with a lawyer.    He feels confident that he can get GM to buy back my truck for what I paid for it.    Unfortunately, I've also spent money to upgrade the rims, install a tonneau cover, running boards, etc.   But, I'd prefer not to have to deal with this on a truck that I'd like to drive for 1-15 years.

What ended up happening after the lawyer got involved?

Mine will not work for DAYS sometimes, and the screen will flash on and right back off once every minute like it is “trying” to boot up. But this has gone on for so long now (over six months) that I know it will not pick up and work until after the GMC logo page appears. I thought it might be a bad contact in the module because it would come on first thing in the morning if it was ‘cold’ outside and then not connect in the afternoon. I am at a loss for a reason. But if this is how GMC manages these issues by just ignoring them. I will trade this 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 with the Elevation package in on a Dodge.

And have similar problems.  Try a titan or a tundra.

O.K. well I guess I am not alone on this subject. I have not seen any recent posts about this since 2019. It is now 2021 and I just experienced this issue on my 2019 Trail Boss. Not controls, blank screen and the radio could not be turned off or down, or change the channel. I turned the truck off then on again. Nothing... When I arrived at home, I checked fuses all good. I went to back it into the garage and it magically worked. No clue how or why. I did not reset, pull fuses or anything. It just decided to work again, which worries me more as this sounds like such an intermittent problem, like most electrical issues (goblins in the wires). Anyone have a fix or has GM announced a fix yet?

My dealership service tech has a "tech case" open for 6 months now on my 2020 with no reply yet from Chevy software engineers; tech said 8 months or more is common for a reply. Tech's best effort was to reset the radio/MyLink system with factory default and showed me how to do it if blank screen happens again. However, display has to be working to reset: tech's tip was to shut off truck, open/close driver's door, and let truck sit for about 20 minutes & display should work again. When I checked last month on tech case, I complained that my Silverado is two models years old and that there should be a fix by now. I was told it is a "software anomaly" and there may never be a fix. Pretty upsetting.

I left My 2020 Custom  4 four times in the last year at dealership for radio repairs.

Repairs so far in year 1 and 4 months

1st reset  radio  (black in three weeks)

2nd reset the radio update the radio (black screen after two weeks )

3rd Replaced the radio after sitting there for 3 weeks and soon as i rolled of the lot shuts off goes black.

4th Reset the radio again ( requested a full radio upgraded and waiting on the response now )

Frustrated is not even the word for it!

Yes it must be a GM thing. Bought a new Silverado in 2016, by the end of the year it was blacking out. I was told to take out a fuse and wait 15 seconds. This solution worked but it was extremely an annoying. Bought a  2020 Silverado this past August and today the screen started blacking out again. Im done with GM, piece of ******! next truck will either be Dodge, Nissan or Ford.

Do you have the 8 inch or 7 inch display ?  Make sure you record the issues if you can because they try to use a logging system that records after 1 minute time frame for system failures  not seconds  in which most of the failures were 16 to 25 seconds.

My wife's 2021 Armada goes in tomorrow because her infotainment screen shuts off/restarts 3-5 times a week.

Just a heads up.

My 2021 Silverado 1500 that I bought in August just started doing this. The first time the entire radio shut off and went black for about 15-30 seconds while driving and came back on.  Then today, screen went black but the radio stayed on, but could not be controlled.  Parked the truck and shut it off, opened doors and got out, and the radio still stayed on.  After about 5 minutes it shut off and then was fine when started back up.

Does anyone know what the current version of the software is?  My truck says it's up to date, the version number is v135119-LS.

My 2021 Silverado 2500HD did the same thing this a.m. on the way to work.  Bought last July.  Screen went black, radio still worked.  Backup camera worked, parked the truck and the radio stayed on after turning the truck off and closing the doors.  Went back out to pull the fuse 5 minutes later and everything was OK.  Disappointing to hear this has been an issue for a couple of years now.

Thanks guys.  Ended up taking it to the dealer on Monday.  They couldn't reproduce anything, so they just reflashed the system with the latest software.  It's been ok so far.

They did say that sometimes the radio will do something like that if it tries to push a software update etc...  But it looks like the software they loaded was the same version from last April.  So not sure why it would have been trying to update...

OK , this is how my radio blacks out all the time USB connected  application on phone launches everything gets hot screen blacks out android/apple either cable attached to phone.(10 plus times with a new display/radio installed)  Hint: attach your truck to your home WiFi  that way it auto-updates all the time. The receiver is like a cellphone looking for towers for signal if you have the 4glte service equipment install.

Settings

Wifi

see your home WiFi signal

select it

then input your WiFi password

then your truck will be connected to your home WiFi for updates and service diagnostics.

Après avoir vérifié les fusibles, appuyé sur tous boutons, essayé les resets...j ai pressé en même temps la fermeture automatique des portes et des fenêtres, et miracle, ça fonctionne!

    • Its just that it worked on 2024 trucks on this forum and my 2025 model truck, unless GM did something since that point to screw up access or Autel has a bad update. I haven't had need to use my tool since last year when I did the changes to the placard pressure settings and since then I updated the software on my Autel but have not plugged into the OBD so hard to say if I would get a surprise as well.    All I know last year when I bought the Autel I was warned to be sure to update it before I tried using the unit as they said who knows how long ago unit itself was actually manufactured as the software could be way out of date.
    • And so you had gone through the process of registering and updating the tool and so on ?. All I can say is that on the front page as the tool fires up you go to advanced mode, then vehicle model comes up and you choose Silverado ( not the DRW or EV  since your a single rear wheel ) , then I think its choice 2 which is 07/2021 - 12/2026 ( 433mhz 13542523 ) as that is the series of tpms sensors and then go down to choice 5 which is tire type/pressure selection. Hit yes and it says to connect to OBD port and turn ignition on.    Having said this, I updated the software in my tool lately and these year range choices look different from the past due to them doing some updates it would appear and I have not connected up to the OBD port since last year so hopefully I am not in for a surprise with them screwing up the software and that it won't work on my truck anymore either.    So my question is, when you plugged into the OBD and started your truck it had that message on the Autel screen "vehicle not supported" ?. That does seem odd as tire shops would be pissed right off if hey can't use their tool on the model year after mine that in theory is supposed to be much the same truck ... unless GM did some change in the computer system to block certain things from access.
    • Understanding and using modern scan tools is its own body of knowledge. I had little hope that would work...programming access to the BCM is probably required and that is not easy for us consumers. Expensive scan tool, GM programming subscription, online authentication, etc.   It also may be a matter of finding the right dealer to program it for you. Flashing a modern BCM might be a little too advanced for most tire shops.
    • Update for anyone following:    Installed everything as shown in diagram. Opted for 8 AWG from Battery Positive to a 50A resettable inline breaker. 8 AWG is tied into to 2x 12 AWG wires feeding a 6 way fuse bus in parallel (manufacturer’s design of what I purchased).    4 of the 6 fuses available for circuits are tied to terminal 30 of each relay. I tied a jumper from one of my spare circuits off the bus to terminal 86 of each relay. The trigger, terminal 85, was pulled from my interior by way of T-Taps from the X61A-X5 pins 10, 11, 17 and 23. This was the hardest part of the job. Even with the X61A unbolted and the X5 removed - there was VERY little wiggle room.  I added back up lights that I want to come on with my cargo lamp - but when I would check continuity between S48A-X1 pin 18 to its respective landing point on the X61A-X5 it triggers the factory relay… Instead I opted for a add-a-fuse on the passenger interior fuse panel (fuse location 10 - cargo lamp) and ran it through the boot on the driver side to my load. Did this to avoid introducing any electrical gremlins.   Note: Please check for continuity between the S48A-X1 and the X61A-X5. In my case wire colours were not the same as other’s who have posted. To do a continuity check you need a Multimeter. Completely disassemble the S48A-X1 and remove the brown face plate off the X61A-X5 by way of a flat head screwdriver - this was the only way I could get any results.   The outputs, terminal 87 of the relays, were fed into a junction box and landed at Individual studs and were labelled Aux 1-4.    At this point, all you need to do is run wire to your loads and bring them to ground. I created a negative bus in the engine bay, all my negatives land here.    For anyone having issues with all of your new aux switch lights coming on with the press of one - I noticed this only to be an issue when the battery wasn’t hooked up to my relays? No idea why, but it was quickly corrected by having my system buttoned up and functional.
    • Well I ordered the Autel ts508, and it won't work on my truck I tried all the 2023 and everything it just says vehicle not supported lol   I'm able to send this unit back, so I'm going to do that, then I'll just stop into a some tire shops and if none of them are able to do it, I guess ill have to spend a bunch of money to get a good scanner..... Thanks GM lol
