2019 RAM Heavy Duty

Recommended Posts

1,000 lb/ft of torque.

Similar to the 1500 front end.

That’s great, hopefully now GM will follow as well cause I like that GM’s interior doesn’t fall apart.

They did address one of the main complaints I had with with my 2014 6.4 by adding the 8-speed. The 6 speed currently in use is awful and ruined the 6.4 experience for me (along with it being a poorly built truck). It'll be interesting for me when I replace my 2016 in the next 1.5 years or so. Ram HD is mostly carryover minus the new dash and a modified ZF 8-speed while Ford and GM will have all new drive lines plus GM being a whole new truck. Ram might be the dark horse here but I am not buying anything without considering and driving all three of them next year.

If FCA could just make quality products, I'd never drive anything else.  I had two Wrangler Rubicons, they were awesome - nothing on the road compares to the experience of driving a Wrangler with lockers.  But worth it?  Nah.  Too many problems.

When I decided I needed a truck, I was absolutely salivating over a Power Wagon or maybe a stick-shift Cummins truck.  Again, two products that really don't have a peer elsewhere in the industry.

Know what I bought?  A 6.0 2500HD.  Know why?  Because yeah, it's boring, but I don't feel like spending my time and money getting crap fixed.

You give me GM reliability and FCA excitement, I'll take it.  But given the choice is mutually exclusive, I went GM this time.

I agree with you mostly although I'm not certain an all new GM truck and drive line will be more reliable than an updated Ram HD. I'll probably be buying the second model year of these trucks so I should have some info to go with by then.

I wouldn't trade my 6.0 for a current 6.4 Ram for anything. The 6-speed behind the 6.4 has terrible gearing and the truck struggles with ridiculously tall 1st and 2nd gears. The 8-speed will cure this and should keep the 6.4 in sweet spots much better.

Generally I'm not brand biased - will go with the best truck available at the time.  Past 3 have been Sierra HD Denali.  Had a 14 Ram 2500 Limited before those.  I have to say that the interior technology and "feel" was definitely better than the highest end GM has to offer and they appear to still be leading the charge in that space.  I had 7 recalls in a 3 month span on my RAM and the track bar mounts on the front had poor weld from factory and was a recall as well.  Other 6 recalls were software only.

Right now, I'm holding on replacing my current '17 3500HD until I see what the GMC has to offer in exterior and interior.  But, if the interior is EXACTLY the same (which appears to be the case) as the GM 1/2 ton's... I will probably go back and take my chances for the next year or so with the Ram.  Defiantly not a fan of the Silverado exterior and the interior of the 1/2's is weak.

My cheap work truck Ram has had 5 recalls done in the last 6-8 months with one of them stating ( If the gas tank straps fail at any time in the next 10 years we will replace them free of charge)  boy that's a load off my mind!!!  When was the last time anyone had a gas tank strap fail????  What beer cans are they using for this???  It's the little things like this that I can't just go to Ram.  :jester:

Budwiser, of course.  If it's cheap and rattly.. it's a Bud.  If it's smooth and up to the challange, it's Rocky Mountain tough Coooooooooors.  (Oh wait, Bud has a brewery in Ft. Collins, Colorado)
