Is a catch can still needed if im off the AFM? I have had the truck since 19k miles, im at 54k now, Its had AFM turned off since then. Am I still needing a catch can?  2015 5.3l

Well some will say yes (me included) and others will say no (a lot) because it’s more to do with the fact with direct injection (our GM DI) has the injector in the cylinder, some manufacturers have dual injection systems. The older (port injection) systems used to inject fuel into the cylinders through the intake valves. This had the effect of washing the backside of the intake valves every time the fuel was injected. Now with DI, that fuel never washes over the valves and this is where the “coking” or build up is coming from. The jury is out on whether this actually does any damage or whatnot but it’s going to at the very least cause airflow disruption which can degrade performance over time. Many folks call BS and I’m not an engineering expert. I have mine for preventative piece of mind...it may not do a darn thing in real world driving but it makes me feel better.

I agree completely.  I am a mechanical engineer and understand what these do.  I had one on my 15 an will soon have one for my 18 that I picked up new last Saturday.  They work and they do help keep the intake and valves clean.   Clean valves flow better.  I also had one on my 08 Caddy CTS, it had on of the early direct injection engines.

Just installed my dual valve with css UPR can tonight. The factory quick connections are amazing.

Can you show where you connected the hoses to your truck? I am thinking about buying a dual setup. Thanks

There are videos from RXP, UPR and Elite that show the entire install...if Geico was answering this they'd say "So easy, even a Caveman could do it"...

Seriously, see the top of this page for UPR video

Do these work with an aftermarket intake? I have an Airaid full intake. Not the MIT.

Yes, I know UPR will size the hoses according to what CAI you have. Just make sure to let the know when you are ordering.

I followed this video when doing the install. It is identical to the system I have. I think one connection is in a slightly different location if you have the 5.3.

We have received a lot of requests to design and machine a taller Catch Can with more volume.  We already have our E2-X Ultra, which is a beast!  But now we can also offer our "Tall" E2 Catch Can.

This "Taller" E2 Catch Can holds an additional 4 ounces of liquid, which means less frequency required to empty.

And as with both our E2 and E2-X Catch Cans, they will outperform any other Catch Can on the market - period!  The proof is in the testing and what's caught in the bottom of the Catch Can.

I still can't justify the cost of these cans.

They all should come with a drain valve.

Not to try and justify the cost but two of the three popular cans have the drain valve...and I agree, they all should.

Our E2-X Catch Cans come with a supplied ball valve bottom drain.  Our E2 Catch Cans have a removable bottom that unscrews to clean, empty, or inspect.   Some owners prefer the bottom drain, some prefer the removable base, so we offer both

OK Elite.

But having the choice on all models makes sense to me.
