18 Denali Ultimate

All,

theres a leftover 18 6.2 Denali crew cab ultimate with a std bed for 57k after rebates. 65k sticker

i have a 17 slt 5.3 6 speed crew std bed with 51k. They offered me 31 k for it and won’t budge off of the 57k on the 18.

i can hardly find Denali or slt crew cabs with the std bed which is a must for me. The only thing my truck is missing is the 6.2.

I’m getting ready for tires and brakes, and would like to add a center console. To me, that totals 3k. Should I put that 3k to a new truck? Only mod my truck has is bilsteins on all 4 corners with the fronts at the max height.

thoughts? Located in New England.  I don’t need a new truck and based on what I owe on mine, I’d probably have to put down 10k and pay taxes out of pocket to keep my payment around 500. I can afford a higher payment. This truck is a business truck and I write off all mileages that i can.

Thanks

On dec 28 I got a little over 13,000. Off a 65,085.00 sticker price and they gave me 30,000. For my 2014 sierra with 60,000 miles.

The question is would you be willing to pay $10k+ for the 6.2L engine and 51k less miles? The 6.2L is a fun work horse, but the 5.3L has good power too. What's your main reason for the 6.2L? Towing, fun, both?

I have a 6.2L and love it, but I really took my time to find the best deal for all the things I wanted. If the standard bed is really that rare on a Denali you may have no choice but to fork over the cash.

The 6.2 is amazing but not worth $25k. Don't do it. Tune your 5.3 and it will be better than the 6.2.

The stock 6.2 tune sucks.

By your own words, the stock 6.2 tune sucks...okay let’s agree on that! But what can you do to the 5.3 with a tune that you couldn’t apply to the 6.2? Let’s say you gain just a conservative 50hp and 50tq for $400 with the 5.3 (355hp/383tq stock) you now have 405hp and 433tq okay not bad so a little more tuning and you add 65hp and 65tq...now we’re talking! You’re at 420hp and 448tq...So you got to the stock 6.2hp (420) but still fell a tad short getting to the 460tq from that stock 6.2 with a factory tune that sucks right? Well, if I’m gonna spend money on a tune and want a real beast under the hood, give me the same 65hp and 65tq on the 6.2 with your non-sucking tune! That’ll give me 485hp and 525tq ? we aren’t even talking about E85 yet...so dollar for dollar spent on a tune, I’ll take the 6.2 please. I assume you have the 5.3 which is a great engine and not sure where you got the 25K price difference $2,495 on the 2018...still a chunk of change but it’s a strong engine that is already where a tuned 5.3 is trying to get to. Basically I’m saying anything you can do to the 5.3 you can do to the 6.2 the OP just needs to figure out if he wants it...if he doesn’t need or want it find a 5.3 both good engines...one just has more oomph Heck the Vette isn’t much more in stock form...not talking about the upper priced Vettes! You know those really stout ones most of us can’t afford ?

Opinions are plentiful. Drive the truck, they will budge if you have good credit, the 18 does them no good to have on the lot. After driving it, buy it if you like it. The one great thing about buying cars is that you negotiate a price you like, or walk with no obligations to buy. SS502 had a great point, but was kind of long, so I got bored and stopped reading it????.  But he does make a great point for the 6.2.

You're right. I was referring to the extra $25k he's going to spend buying a new truck as opposed to keeping his 5.3.

The question I have is there that much tuning room in the 6.2? You already have it tune to run on 93 gas from the factory. There may not much to gain other than drivability with a tune.

I am sure, well kind of sure, maybe sure but not really sure there is room...I thought the octane requirement was more centered around the 11.5:1 compression ratio. You may very well be right because I am VERY ignorant on this tuning thing...I'm old school and quite frankly don't know how the tuning with computers and such even works. However, they make that 6.2 in the base (455hp) Corvette pretty stout albeit with different intake and exhaust manifolds and a few other goodies. The compression ratio theory (mine) is probably not a good reason to be honest, I believe the 5.3 is 11.1:1 Either way in the end both are good V-8 power plants...I drive a 2017 Silverado at work with the 5.3 and it runs just fine but there is a noticeable difference in mine and the 5.3 in the Silverado. Only reason I got the 6.2 is because I just wanted it, I have no valid reason other than that to justify my purchase but I'd do it again in a heartbeat :)

You only live once .

You said you can afford it and it's a write off. Get your ass over there this morning and buy it before it's gone.

No brainier.

I put a tune in every truck I ever bought. I was usually out of warranty in a few short months with the miles I drove. I didn’t pay for gas, I didn’t really pay for the truck it was a write off for the business. I quit buying the high end trucks, the leather didn’t last, Bose sucked, didn’t want a sun roof. I buy a Texas Edition or similar packages. Have aftermarket leather, radio added sometimes power adders too. My old truck would usually go to a manager so I didn’t trade it. Of course in GM infinite wisdom kept the 6.2 out those packages. The money I saved would give an excuse to some mods so the power wasn’t missed. The diesels were the most fun real power could be had. Until they messed those up and l started buying gas.
