Another Bilstein question

Are the rear 5100s suppose to be installed boot up? I’ve read mix things so just wanted to get extra opinions, I’m about to have some installed on my truck tomorrow and just want to make sure it gets done right. I’ve searched online and in this forum but not finding solid answers.

Bilstein designed the rears to be installed Boot down.

Bilstein lettering would be upside down if installed boot up.

Maybe they are designed this way to prevent rock spray front hitting most of the shock body?

Mine are boot down and have been great. Rears are super easy to install. I did in my driveway wihtout lifting truck. Took maybe 20 minutes. The fronts on the other hand are a lot of work.

I was told go with the lettering, if Bilstein is upside down then the shocks are.

Bilstein sticker needs to be upright. Depending on model, boots can be either way but the Bilstein needs to be upright.

It is a monotube design and honestly does not matter. Personal preference/look is what I would go for.

Going back on some other threads regarding this 5100 rear shock, some install boot up, some boot down.

Bilstein itself is not clear on the correct or "better" orientation, other than with the boot down the decal reads correct.

I have had mine Boot up like all factory shocks and other aftermarket brands now for probably 10K miles with no problems.

This is the look I prefer and will never get questions from others as to why my shocks are upside down LOL.

Before leaving mine boot up I tested boot down for about 1K miles. I can tell you there is absolutely no ride or handling difference either way.

What is best price around for the 5100s? Seeing about $334 with free shipping plus tax on Amazon.

I can do the rears myself but what is a good cost to have the fronts done and alignment checked?

Mine all together was $354.99, labor and new spring mounts for some reason? Back and front installed and alignment

Did you go to a mom and pap mechanic or one of the chain type places?

Are the fronts easier to do on a 2018 GMC 2500HD. They appear because of the torsion bar suspension just un-bolt the old shock and install the new one . Correct me if I'm wrong, thanks

Yes, pretty much just bolt on like the rears I believe.
