Why was the messaging app discontinued?

GOOD Question, but good luck getting an answer!  This is what the Messages App looked like back in October 18.

What is the big deal with the messages app? I mean other than you had it and then you didn't? I have been fine using Android auto to listen to and respond to messages.

Mainly Convenience.  With the Messages App I did not have to be in Android Auto to listen and respond to messages. In addition, with the HUD I do not use Android Auto that often since the HUD only displays navigation information through the internal navigation  system.  I can receive and answer phone calls with both and I used to get messages through both.

As the title of the thread is regarding the 803.1 update; I'm still on v. 509.  I check everyday and no update.  I looked in my history, and it shows the truck received updates from 507 to 509 and then last week I got an Onstar update to v. 663.  I'm frustrated that I have yet to receive the 803 update.  '19 Trail Boss LT.  Ugh..

To my surprise the truck offered the update on it's own when I put it in park after my commute this morning. I was not connected to wi-fi nor do I have the wi-fi service......

Because it was there when the truck was bought and I expect it to stay. Not all owners connect there phone to Android Auto or Carplay. Now if GM had the Wireless Android Auto [So no cable is necessary], and AA could work in the background, that would be a game changer.

I believe the Onstar update will come over the Onstar connection, but the Infotainment updates need a Wifi connection.

It will come in due time since they roll it out over a period of time. The Dealer can also place the update on if you wish to go that route.

I noticed on my loaner it says 500 version on the main screen but when you go to more info it's says updated to 800 version

Yes.  I went to more info and that's where I see all the previous updates and the dates it updated.  Just haven't received the newest version yet.  Maybe I'm just being impatient.  I understand it's not an earth shattering update, but dammit I want it on my new truck!  :-)

What did this update bring for those of us without a higher level system? Mine doesn’t have climate control on the screen. So what did this update bring for me?

Is there anyway to get the temp on the DIC? I run Waze on the main screen so can't see the temp on the radio screen. Could always look at the phone, or toggle out and back into AA, but I'd rather have the temp than compass on the DIC.

Are there any apps other than iHeartRadio and usa today or whatever news thing is there. I only see like three or four useless apps.

ALRIGHT.......

This topic has gotten way down in the weeds.

Have we formed any conclusion that defines the purpose of the v803.1 update?

I’ve scoured the forums for release notes or any findings from users? I myself have spent some time messing around with it and haven’t noted any obvious changes. Please let me know if any of you have any info.

I noticed some subtle things like the swipe left and right on the app icons feels/appears “smoother”.

I’ve noticed the Marketplace app which may be a new addition,
but I’ve also noticed the appearance of “Video”permissions under the privacy section of the settings menu. If anyone has any idea as to what this could indicate, I’d be interested to hear.
