Suppose I buy a brand-new 5.3 crew cab standard bed Silverado, slap a high-rise canopy on it with some huge towing mirrors, and put 32" E-rated aggressive all-terrain tires on it.

Then suppose I do a 1000 mile road trip going 80 mph on winter gas, somewhat windy conditions and fairly cold.  Lots of wind resistance.

How many mpg do I get on said road trip?  Just a feeler here, I appreciate any input.

Good guesses!  I figure 14 mpg.  Stick with P rated tires, drop speed to 70 mph and 20 mpg might be a reality!

What rear gear, transmission, 2or4wd, brand/model of tire, start point & end point of trip and weight including passengers of said mythical truck and journey.

Need all the info for an informed answer. Otherwise it’s like asking how much is a medium pizza at Dominos...

You will get less than 10.

Probably less than 9.

At least I did, running with stock 1500 NHT truck pulling 7.5 x 14 enclosed utility trailer from Port Huron to Phoenix at interstate speed +5 (usually).

8 speed trans was usually in 6th, sometimes 5th, occasionally in 7th and almost never in 8th.

Dam small fuel tank on 1500 means lots careful fuel stop planning, and often filling 'early', because making it to the next location was not going to be possible.

Lifted truck, high canopy and higher speeds you are planning means it's not likely going to do better than I did.

Annoyance on that trip is one of the reasons I'm back in a 2500.

My truck at 80 mph (love having 80mph speed limits) gets like 15-ish at best, mostly stock. With all that you are probably going to be single digits lol.

thanks to everyone that provided substantive input.  sounds like i should keep my 2500HD, the juice isn’t worth the squeeze if i am only going to get 2 or 3 more mpg.

for those who criticized the thread, may god have mercy on your pathetic souls.
