GM Joe Posted July 15, 2019 Posted July 15, 2019 I noticed that the OEM shocks on my Silverado got a little soft and bouncy. And there’s very pronounced feathering on the outside treads of the both front tires that might be caused by poor suspension system. So, I’ve been searching for new shocks, reading some guides: https://4wdlife.com/shocks-for-silverado-1500 But I don’t think I can make the right choice based solely on a guide. I want to hear your opinions, guys. What shocks can you recommend?

Jacoby Posted July 15, 2019 Posted July 15, 2019 Bilsteins are overrated and will ride rougher. If your truck is stock then any aftermarket shock will work from Monroes to Bilsteins. Boils down to what do you want to pay

HeySkippyDog Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 In all seriousness, Bilstein shocks are NOT overrated, you absolutely will get what you pay for. 5100s are not the only option, Bilstein offers others that will fit your truck. I would not take the "Eh" approach and buy any old shock for it. If you do, you'll regret it. If you liked your factory new shock, get some of those. Just read into what you buy and make sure that you buy what you will like. These trucks are not cheap, and "Eh, get Monroes" is not just bad advice, it's damn terrible. I suspect Op is trying to provoke a brand debate on this and possibly other (RAM) forums.

diyer2 Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 When my truck needs shocks I will replace the front coil springs also. Why not? They will loose some tension from age. I will decide at that time to get a shock and coil spring set up for the front. Nothing wrong with Gabriel or Monroes for a stock truck.
