Silverado True North edition?

Recommended Posts

a used car lot about an 1hr from has 3 True North editions on their lot.

all 3 are LT Z71 models & have large True North badges on the doors. 2016 & 17 model years

they are each a different color.

1 is a 5-seat w/ JB1, 1 is a 5-seat non-JB1, & the other is a 6-seat w/ JB1.

Does anyone know exactly what is included w/ this package? w/ a name like that, one would think: rear defrost, heated seats, remote start (all of which are on all of the LT Z71's that i've seen so far), maybe a larger alternator, larger cca battery & a block heater? but alas, i cannot find anything.

i can find a dealership called True North & several videos on youtube from dealerships in Canada that mention True North, but door badges or specific mention of the package includes.

these 3 trucks that I found are in Massachusetts, not Canada. Their clusters are MPH, not KPH. But I get the jist of it. Thanks for the reply though.

In my 2018 you can easily change between units.  The analog speed gauge always displays the correct speed as well.  It's not like in the past, where you had the "foreign" units in smaller numbers that you had to try and read.

ahh, ok

my newest compact truck was an 01 Sonoma cc, my newest fullsize is a 99 c3500 cclb (getting retired for a newer model) & a 99 Suburban. I skipped on both the 800 & 900 models as they didn't interest me. the t1 also doesn't appeal to me.  I honestly never thought to see if my Charger could display both sets, now I gotta look & see.

All three were probably shipped from Canada and bought at auction.  Switching from metric is a user friendly feature.  I switch to mph whenever I cross the border for a visit!   The difference in the dollar make it worthwhile to sell used Canadian vehicles in the US.

Its Canadian.  Has RPO code Z49 on the build which is the identifier for Canadian Market.  We bring GMC's down from there quite often.  Do any of them have a 200mph speedo?  If so they just switched the units readout to English.  Another giveaway is there is no E or F on the fuel gauge, coolant temp is different too.  If they put a US cluster in it and has the 140mph speedo, the DIC fuel mileage bests will be like 31mi, 62mi and 455mi instead of 25mi, 50mi and 400mi.

The VIN of the truck in your first post was a Canadian truck when new.  The very last pic of the door jamb sticker is in English and French.  Going through the service history of it, it was originally sold in Newfoundland.  Had all service work done up there up until it came to the US.  Dealer did the recalls on it 10/25/2019 so they must have just got that truck in not that long ago.

Isn't a Texas Edition the same as an All Star also?

Another thing I always wondered about the Mexican Silverado Known as the Cheyenne. Does the cluster read in Metrics and is it in Spanish? My guess would be yes but I have no idea.

so, i checked the Charger last night, the analog gauge is like all others that i've had, mph larger on the outer edge w/ kph smaller on the inner edge. the digital screen also has a speedometer on it & allows me to toggle between the 2. so i learned something new on the car.

in New England we have to contend w/ rot from road salt, would these Canadian trucks be any worse for wear? I ask because i don't know what Canada uses to treat its roads.

They might have seen worse.  Hopefully one of our many Northern users on here can chime in but some Canadian provinces use sand with liquid chemical mix.  Pretty rough stuff.  I've seen some 2018's come down from Quebec that have more surface rust and missing wax than an NY state truck that's been on the road since 2015-2016.  And NY is pretty heavy on the salt in some towns.  Especially if its a mild winter.  They make sure to use the allotted salt budget LOL.

Yes, if they are from Ontario, walk away. If they are from the prairies, MB, SK, or AB they wont be in bad shape. In Ontario, you can buy a brand new K2 and have the frame look like its 20 years old after one winter. The NOX rust frame coating just cant hold up to the magnesium chloride here. I would recommend wearing some Sunday sweat pants and crawl under each truck to inspect for corrosion.

You have to inspect any used vehicle carefully.  Signs of premature rusting is a red flag no matter where the vehicle was sold originally.  Unless we buy privately from a close friend, we can only guess about the history of a used vehicle.   Knowing where its previous owner lived is interesting but doesn't tell us how it was maintained.
