XM radio

Ok, so I buy a new GMC Elevation with tons of bells and whistles and it doesn't have a XM radio... go figure. So I ask the dealer to put one in and they tell me that if they do, it will void my warranty.  Now, I can put an aftermarket one in and it won't void the warranty.  Will someone please explain this ridiculous logic to me.  Just went to xm radio and they have an adapter for cheap, but you have to use your usb port (the only one, by the way in the front)

What was their explanation on why it would affect the warranty, especially if it is offered as a factory option?

They haven't said why, just that it can't.  Seems to me if I have an aftermarket radio put in, wouldn't they have to change the code on the truck?  Why can't they just put in a GM XM radio and change the code?  Because I am no one, I can't get any numbers for GM Technical support and get a real answer.  I actually asked them if they are listening to themselves as they tell me that I can have an after market but not a real GM or Delco radio.  Go figure....

Welcome to this forum!  Your definition of all the "bells and whistles" reflects lower expectations than many! ?  XM radio would be a pretty basic feature, imo.   I agree with the others that I believe you're being misinformed.  I'd phone around to other Dealerships pretending they are your first inquiry and ask how much such an upgrade radio will cost.  Don't start off asking if it can be done.

You could subscribe to Sirius/XM, then download the App on your phone and steam through the USB port.

At one point you have to pay for the service anyway, and the App gives you way more channel choices than how the trucks are set up.

I do this during the NFL season when I am out of town, you can get all of the games, where in the truck I am limited to maybe one, usually that I do not care about.

Curious, what code are you talking about?

What's the RPO code?

I’m pretty sure it can be added as all they really add is the module. I don’t think there are any codes to change.

Thanks so much for your reply.  They tell me that it can't be done... Why?  I haven't a clue.

Thanks to everyone that replied.  My question now is... When was this truck built?  Before? After?  the strike?  Maybe that would explain it all.  No parts, throw anything in it.  I am on a quest...

Scan the QR label in the drivers side (front door) jamb.

Does not give all of the details of the build, but most of them.

There is a company that makes an add on to the GM radio and that’s a fact. XM will even appear on your radio screen but I was quoted a $700 price tag by an install place. I wonder what a place like Best Buy would have to offer.
