I am quite upset that when preparing to clean my truck today what I found was the dealer had cut and chopped up the carpet underneath both front seats when performing the seatbelt pretensioner recall. Leaving them open to any objects or food, trash, split drinks and so on that may be dropped Elecrtonics exposed and a what i assume is a hvac vent that seemingly goes to nowhere. Anyone else experience this with the recall service?

I have not had this experience but based on your pictures. I'd also be upset.  I am curious about the discussions you had with the dealership about your disappointment.  You may find they are not proud of the work done by the tech and will find a way to regain your satisfaction.  Give them an opportunity to regain your trust before venting online.

Pre-tensioner recall involved removal of the "B" pillar molding for access and trimming a piece of rug under the molding. Appears to me to be a butcher job to get to the airbag connector instead of killing power to the battery and waiting for the system to discharge to prevent accidental deployment......the quick, easy and dirty method. All dealers are not equal.

There is a single clean access slit in the carpet but might take too much time and effort working in a confined space. Anyway an excuse to look under the seats....what amazed me is that the all but useless HVAC ducts under the seats in the K1s are also in used in addition to the upper console ducts in the T1s.

I have done one or two of these.

The carpet is NOT supposed to be cut, nor does the procedure say to cut it.

When doing the procedure correctly, the tech is supposed to remove the lower portion of the trim under the seatbelt, the sill plate and loosen the trim that goes towards the back of the seat.  Then, they are supposed to pull the carpet back enough to access the seatbelt pre-tensioner anchor.

It seems that, and I would not be surprised, that they might have not removed the trim and cut the carpet under the seat to pull it back from there instead of doing it the right way.  And actually, the part that gets "fixed" isn't under the seat at all.

Sad part is someone there feels that is an expectable way to return your truck to you.

Professional work should be done to standards to where you can not even tell it was done.

Just to be proactive, you might want to let GM know ahead of time what has happened.

If you have a good relationship with the dealer, work with them first, just so they don't get blindsided, but that work speaks volumes about the integrity of their employees.

Yeah... f*ck that!!!  I'd be raising all kinds of hell.

Thanks for the heads up on this though, I'll make sure to look before I accept return of my truck in Thursday, when I take it in for multiple recalls (this being one of them).

Kinda why I like to wait a bit on these recalls.  Seems like they learn the right (and wrong) ways to handle these on the first few vehicles.

Shoot, now i need to check my truck for this bullsh!t, i would be asking for all new carpet.

Isnt the dealer supposed to install a new bracket/plug a hole?

Looks like the dealers did not learn much after they "hacked" up everyone's seat belt on the recall of the 14's.

Question?? I own my truck out right!! 2020 TB.. Do I have to get these recalls done by law?? What I’m asking is my first oil and filter change service came with the purchase of my truck... I could care less about some possible fire from some BS recall or for them to look at some glue on my battery... Can I demand that they don’t do the recall? Or are they obligated bye law to fix them?? I’m doing my own oil change if that’s the case...
