I have a 2018 LT with no sunroof no sliding rear window and currently no homelink. WHy in 2018 its not standard on all vehicles we will never know..

I know you can just buy the complete overhead console that only adds the homelink and none of the other switches and its plug n play. I cannot find a used one so going the new route looks like its $165...

but since theres nothing really wrong with mine minus the switches - cant i just buy the wiring harness for it, the homelink buttons, and and small center panel for the switch cutouts?

harness:

that totals like $67...

yes on my 015 I just added the opener, harness, buttons & cut out panel to my original console. Total time to do was probably an hour.

I used this video on youtube as a guide. Guy is long winded as hell so skip ahead if you use this one.

This was the parts list for mine from GM Parts Direct when I ordered mine. I got the grayish trim not the tan.

ohhh i see you gotta buy the buttons separate from the actual garage door opener switch/brain... thats $93 bucks...

so its $159 to do it this route or for $6 more you get the entire console ready to go and its 2 screws 2 tabs and 1 plug and its done...

I now know why noone goes the separate route

This was one of the first mods I did on mine when I got it in late 015. At that time nobody had whole consoles in stock as they were back ordered. I get a decent discount on that site so that helped also.

At that time there wasn’t any used ones on Fleabay either I have since den then pop up on there from time to time now whole consoles & just the homelink panels. When my wife had her Nitro I bought the homelink visors off there for 25 bucks shipped to the house & gave my detail guy 10 bucks to clean them up. They looked brand new Dodge wanted 200ish for the one visor...

I also remember I had to find my own screws that hold the box to the console as GM doesn’t sell them separate. Not having to waste your time trying to find 2 that will work is worth the 6 bucks difference in price.

I found mine on eBay as a pull off unit and it was plug and play and around $90, but that was a couple years ago.

I've been watching eBay and can't find one with this setup. Junkyards around me don't have alot of junk trucks yet or if they do they are bare bones wrecked work trucks.

Didn't they change something about them for 2018? Like the ambient led color or something I thought...

Sun glasses holder got more bigger I believe was the “change”?

stole off an ad for one on Fleabay...

This overhead console has the updated sunglasses compartment. The original one on 2014-17 opened 1.5" and had a curved opening, this one opens 2" and has a straighter. You can actually put your sunglasses in it! This will replace the 2014-17 style poorly designed overhead console.

I'd like to add the Homelink as well, and based on this thread, I'd probably order the entire assembly as in the first link.  How do I know what color is right for my interior?  I have the Jet Black interior (RPO code HOU) with the light color on the roof and pillars.  I would call the roof color "puddy", but I've seen the assembly available in colors called "gray", "light ash/gray" and "tan."  Does anyone know which console color would be right for my interior?

Post a pick of your interior one of the GM colors is called shale.

Thanks Waffle.  I ordered the gray and it arrived today.  I haven't installed it yet, but it looks like an exact match.

I have a 2020 Sierra 1500 SLT with Safety One and

two options.  Also no console, thus no rear window or sunroof.  I just installed a denali overhead console 84816397  from GMPartsNow.com  184.50. I has the rear window switch but no sunroof switched.  I installed two led lights where the sunroof switches go.  The unit just plugged in and got the garage door opener to work.  All was there in the two original plugs.

Also I found that there were two colors.  black and atmosphere.  Atmosphere is the gray color in Sierra 2020 1500's

Plugs were a little tricky getting out.  The little red catch needs to slide up the pinch in the lever and pull out.

My garage opener also did not easily reprogram.  I is an older  Lift Master opener and it took a couple of times after first syncing the garage door remote  to the Homelink unit.

Overall, a pretty easy install.  Putting in the two led's took the longest since the overhead console has to be dismantled.  Without doing that, the install would only be removing two cover strips, loosening two T10 screws that are deep in a plastic hole, undoing a center plug mount (do not know what that was for, didn't connect to anything) and unplugging two connectors.  Once I did it the first time, It would only take 5 minutes to change.

Adding the LED overhead lighting had been done before on the old overhead and had to repeat the process on the new overhead.

I have pictures in another thread on that subject.

    • New member here. I am researching a read-first event-recorder concept for late-model GM V8 trucks. This is not a sales post. There is no product link, price, preorder, or mailing list. I am trying to determine whether the underlying problem is real before building anything.   Has your truck ever had a brief problem such as: - rough running or a momentary misfire - an oil-pressure warning or unusual pressure event - reduced power or a brief stall - a U-code or lost-communication problem - a symptom that disappeared before the dealer or independent shop could reproduce it   If so, I would appreciate the following details: - year, model, engine, and mileage - what happened and under what conditions - whether a DTC and useful freeze-frame data were stored - whether the shop was able to reproduce it - what the eventual confirmed repair was, if known - what additional information would have helped the diagnosis   The concept being evaluated is a removable leave-in recorder that continuously retains a rolling window from before and after an event. It would not tune, reflash, clear codes, or change the vehicle calibration.   I am also not claiming that it could predict lifter failure or see every internal ECM variable.   The real question is whether continuous event history would add enough useful evidence beyond freeze frame, GDS2, and existing scan tools — or whether it would simply be another unnecessary gadget.   For owners and technicians, which problem would make something like this genuinely useful: 1. intermittent misfire or AFM/DFM-related behavior 2. oil-pressure events 3. lost communication or electrical faults 4. none of the above Please be blunt. Negative feedback is just as useful as positive feedback.
    • No tears over the SLE and SLT trim levels disappearing but I kind of loathe the "Elevation" name. It's a truck--skip the elegance.   The slab-dashboard design is decidedly different. Almost has a Hummer flavor to it. "Professional Grade" seems to be leaning very white-collar, tech-driven these days moreso than blue-collar, functional design.   The Silverado would be my choice between the two new trucks. Pleased with the engine lineup in both. The GMC is a little "too much" for a truck, IMO, and the Denali borders on ridiculous - but I do know there are buyers for luxury trucks out there. It's just not my speed.
    • Your safety is of utmost importance, @joshua1221, and we understand the importance of having all your lights working in your truck. If you have not already, we highly encourage you to bring your concerns to the attention of your local GM dealer. They are in the best position to diagnose your concerns as well as confirm the compatibility of the mirrors with your truck. Additionally, we would like the opportunity to explore any way we may be of assistance. When you have a moment, please visit: https://s.gm.com/support-request and fill out the support request form with all pertinent details. This form helps our team gather the right information and ensures your request is routed appropriately.
    • - I like the outside but not as much as the Chevrolet.  They ICE'd the EV styling and it works, but I think exterior goes to Chevy on this one.     - SLE and SLT dead = Not.  Surprising.  Fits into the rest of the GMC lineup like this which (aside from Pro) matches the rest of the family.  Elevation, AT4, Denali.     - Interior.  Sophisticated Malaise era.  Why do I say Malaise?  Drawn with a ruler.  Rectangles everywhere.  Looks very premium though.
    • I may be old school. But I’ll pass. I’ll stick with the old stuff. Thank you.
