I understand different positions of animal ownership. Being raised on a farm I experienced life and death of animals. I recently started a thread about losing my buddy, Max the cat. Still miss him dearly. I would give $10 K to have him back.

One special cat and we have had quite a few. 😂

Our post covid road trip plans are delayed largely due to the added burden of travelling with an old dog.  She doesn't do stairs and can't go through the night without one or more trips outside.  This is problematic when staying in motels or other people's homes.  We recently discovered our furry friend is diabetic and we now give her two injections per day.  (Years ago, I would've called anyone nuts for doing this, especially for an older dog.)    We discovered she was diabetic while she was being tested in preparation for oral surgery.  Keeping the diabetes managed makes her much more energetic as well a sleeping through the night.  Ironically, she is now fit for a road trip but our travel budget will now be going to fund her vet's holiday plans! 😉

Not to demean you post but the first few sentences had me thinking of my wife, I always have to get the lower motel rooms because of her knees being shot.

I don't do stairs well either.  Carrying a dog while doing so would have disastrous consequences!

I don’t travel with pets. Pets have the opposite effect on me. They make me anxious. I go the extra mile with a house-dog sitter. Taking your pet to other peoples homes is like forcing people to watch your vacation films. Especially if they have dogs. Your pet is invading their territory. So everyone is anxious. My brother in law bought his lab over once, we had two little dogs. It wasn’t pretty. I made him take it home. I think it’s selfish, leave them home. Sorry there’s little exceptions. I mean really, think about it.

As you suggest, there are exceptions.  This dog is an extraordinarily good traveler and we don't take her where she is not welcome.  The diversity in dogs behavior can be profound and we know we got very lucky with this one.   We thought she may give us a challenge when we started giving her a needle after her meals.  However, after the first day she voluntarily comes to us when she's finished eating, sits, and waits patiently for her insulin!

That’s probably true for you. Some people are like every one loves my baby. I figure I’m finally old enough  I can state my case and do. Honestly I don’t tolerate too many peoples self righteousness. I see way too many people with service dogs. I’m like really? My exemption of course is people who serve. Nothing too good for them. The rest go volunteer.

Went to the State Fair of Texas on Saturday. Looked at every new car model from all manufacturers. Lot of money parked in those display buildings. Chevy had their test drive courses set up for cars and trucks. I drove a 2500HD $80k as it sat. Drove well, was comfortable. Was a nice day. Temps were decent. Not too crowded. Stayed for about 5 hours. Ate a giant corn dog. No giant turkey legs though. Didn't eat any of the various oddities that could be fried

True.  Whether human baby or fur baby yours is the best!  This is a good thing!  When we take our dog to the vet, we feel like the entire staff are excited to see our baby and that she is extra special.  This in turn makes us feel respected and continue as loyal customers.  The same applies with people.  When I worked in the school system, I learned early on about mama bear and papa bear. Once a parent thinks you don't like their child, they won't like you!  Conversely, the more good stuff you say about their child, the more good they'll say about you!

Do they have future (prototypes) trucks on display?  I am curious if GM is going to respond to the Ford Maverick.  These small trucks and all EV's are very popular here.  I believe the demand differs based on fuel prices.  We are currently paying about the same for a liter of gas as you're paying for a gallon!

My wife treats her little dog like a baby. It behaves like one. I probably should have stated I could tell you take other peoples feelings-allergies into account. I felt compelled to remind people that there are some that feel different. Especially if you venture off the concrete or walking paths in rest areas or walking parks. I go to a walking path every day. Half don’t clean up after. Kids are running all over. If I see it happening I ask the owner nicely if they can read. There are signs all over and bag dispensers. I don’t have a road rage problem. Seeing a disrespectful animal owner can get a reaction from me. Especially where kids are involved.

I grew up in the city before it was common for dog owner to pick up after their pets.  We always played outside and were adept at cleaning dog crap off of our shoes.  A couple of swipes at the curb and a few slides on somebody's lawn had you ready for the next encounter!  😉

    • And to top it off finally.......................these small GM LS engines are designed to SPIN!!!!!  Why choke them down to just off idle for cruising.  Why/how the "bean counters" have influenced the "engineering department" at GM is beyond me.   They took a solid platform of an engine and turned into a joke in OEM form!!!
    • Atlas,   Then following your logic we can't believe any story that the MSM produces? I mean it's documented they heavily donate to Democrat candidates. Vote Democrat in high percentages. Many MSM talents are married to Democrat politicians, Gov. employees. That goes for on-air and off, personalities and reporters. So they would all be biased and nothing they produce is to be believed in your mind?   Again the article simply was about ways AI can be used for pricing products. Nothing discounted current situations as a factor.    Again keep looking through your left/right lenses. I don't live my life that way.   And as a heads up this thread will be cleaned up again as much of this is off topic and is receiving
    • Yes, and only a couple years before delivery. 🙄
    • So you're saying toss the baby out with the bathwater? @txab posted article was her take on how AI can be used to manipulate pricing as it already does and has been rebuked by the judiciasry in housing. How AI can be and is used to maximize refinery or even Amazon operations all of which are true but because she is who she is; that makes what she says about what is true, false? Is that something akin to Pre-justice aka prejudice?    Look, I'm first in line to approach all information with caution just because we live in a world where people like to lie about someone or something with such a straight face and in such volume that it makes digging to the truth wearisome. Meaning I understand the skepticisms but if I were to toss out everything a person is for a view they hold then my pool of people to draw wisdom from would be non-existent and I'd be forced to reinvent the wheel daily. Not practical.    "Be innocent as a dove but as cautious as a serpent."    Test each word. Every good lie is part truth or no one would believe it. Find the truth in it and reject what isn't.    On this one, AI is being used to do what has been done by hand for hundreds of years already but at such speed, the point of a computer, that it is more easily monetized. This one wasn't that hard a lift.    I wrote a few formulas in a Lotus 123 program decades ago, a series of linked Macros actually, that allowed a daily inventory to be turned into a running P&L and production plan. Something that took three departments a week to assemble now took the time it takes to input the 'daily changes' in inventory. Later that was ungraded to the more powerful Excel program an and integrated with bar code scanning, inventory to supply was done once per shift. It had a huge impact on production scheduling, Seamless interruption flexibility, inventory error reduction, raw materials cost effective utilization and scrap reduction. Huge improvement in the bottom line. I spent months on that and AI could have done it in minutes. So yes, it not only can be used, they would be foolish to not try. The legality, ethics and morality are not the domain of AI. Humans need to keep a reign on it.
