Tailgate Durability/Strength (or lack thereof)

Seen two new Silverados around the village I live in that have damage to the top of the tailgate. Has anyone else noticed this? I do know that w/o the 'plastic protector' protector in place on the GMT900s, there are quite the number of 'lightening holes' across the top.

Maybe people are backing up with the tailgate down forgetting that it disables the rear sensors?

The 1 truck I heard had a 12' fishing boat ratchet strapped down in the back w/ the tailgate up.

I've been loading my snowmobile with no issues and my dirt bike I'll probably load with the small gate down and use it as assistance

Well, they are aluminum now. So I wouldn’t be too surprised to see a larger number of them screwed up. No problems yet with mine though.

I just find these new trucks just dent really easily

I recall comparing the sheet metal thickness of the C/K and GMT400s was reduced by about 25% when we got our first box side in the plant back in '86. It doesn't surprise me that they've reduced it more...

You've got to hit the camera icon (transfer it the main screen for ease of use) before you hit the dash button to drop the gate.....more than once saved me from getting too close and dropping tha gate against a pole, sign or edge of a loading dock.

My latch half pops out when i load something heavy, so theres some serious flex for sure.

Really, it's a pickup, not a Chevette...

I just have the single tailgate on my base model. Has the power opener and two camera views. Very light. I have had two people up in the bed that stepped out on the end of the gate to jump off, and both times I heard a noise like plastic breaking when they got out on the edge.  I can't see any breaks, but I will have the inside plastic cover off and inspected before the warranty runs out. Not too impressed!

The aluminum F150s makes cracking noises like crazy when someone walks around in the bed.

I’d say it’s a characteristic of the build.

I got that too, I assumed it was the latch handle (button now I guess) plastic barbs popping out. I think sometimes they don't come out far enough and snap back in on there own. Its usually just the top that pops out. It takes a solid hit to snap it back in. Seems to be worse in the cold so far too, maybe the plastic can flex a bit more when warm.
