Rev Hard Tonneau Leaks

I just installed this on my ZR2 and like you mentioned, it seems to be too short for the current body style.  I bet this part has been around quite a while which may have fit the pre-2019 trucks perfectly.  However, it seems the new body style beds may be slightly longer, or the dimensions changed just enough to render this cover not as snug as previous models.  I have tried to readjust many times, and when I have it snug against the cab, then the tailgate doesn't meet the rubber seal when closed and has probably a 1/4" gap or more not sealed thus allowing a lot of water in through the tailgate area.  Then, when I adjust the cover back toward the tailgate slightly to help with that gap, I now have a significant gap near the cab.  I think REV (a.k.a Bakflip) did not modify this cover at all for the new style trucks and are simply saying this part# fits the current 2019 and newer trucks to save money.   I don't expect water tight, but I am getting too much water during a rain to justify keeping this $1k cover.  I am taking mine back to the dealer for a full refund and going back to the drawing board.

So the first bit of rain came in today since I installed it. Holy hell this thing let's in significant amounts of water. Not only does it let in water on the four corners but I've already noticed drips where the cover joints are. I'm going to return this and get something else.

I have had the REV accessory cover on since I bought the Denali new.  Although I had to go back they next day to make them install it better, there was a 1/8" gap at the top of the t-gate and snow had entered on the drive home some 10 miles.  As I told the SM, obviously installed by someone who did not care or know what they was doing.    To date very little water leaks in after the SM himself to charge of installing it.  All to often dealers delegate this kind of work to to detail shop and all too often some of those guys can't walk and chew gum at the same time.

 

There is no way to make it a perfect water tight seal and anyone expecting that is being unreasonable IMO.  It was never designed to be that.

I don't think expecting a water resistant seal from a 1200 dollar tonneau cover is unreasonable? I have had complete water tight seals in many trucks with 300 dollar tonneau covers. For 1200 bucks, I expect it not to let in a gallon of water during a light 30 minute rain event. 

To me there are obvious engineering pitfalls in this cover and I think someone had it right in a previous post where they didn't make any adjustments from the K body trucks. At minimum the tonneau cover is one inch short, two would be appropriate in actually. And the seal design at the corners is questionable.

I bought a Revolver x4s and Installed it myself and it only leaks at the tailgate, however, its not much. I made it loose at the tailgate end so that the tailgate would still drop when I hit the release button. Either way, I am happy with it!

Instead of returning the tonneau cover I decided to motigate the leaking with some automotive foam tape I had on my garage. We shall see how this works.

I have never owned a Tonneau cover but am interested in getting one now.  It sounds like leaks and tailgate functionality are 2 concerns.  What is the best tonneau cover for a 2022 Trail Boss refresh? I don't want to spend over $500.

The soft extang trifecta 2.0 trifold is right up your alley. Since it covers up more surface area of the bedrails, tailgate. All it'll need is a 10 dollar strip of weatherstripping at the front part of the bed to complete the seal. I had one on my 17 silverado and I loved it. The soft ones can just be opened with a razor blade so they aren't as secure as the hard ones but it did the job.

I have a hard folding cover from Rough Country. It leaks very little, and was considerably cheaper than the bak flip. I used this cover on a 21 trail boss and now it’s on my 22 Zr2.

Had our second small rain event today and this thing still leaks at the front corners. It also appears like the front seal allows water through seal channel in which it sits in along the entire width of the seal. Also looks like the drain assembly is no fully sealed with the side rails. It leaks at the joint.

This looks very nice. Nice enough for me to consider spending more $$. Would it dent if a child climbed on top?

Hi.  I picked up a 2023 Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate on Friday.  Dealer installed the Rev cover.  Been raining a looked inside and a lot of water.  Water was coming in along the rails and near the drain tube. 

 

One thing is I went to check the drain tubes. I pulled the tube off the drain on the rail and water gushed out.  It was as if the tube was blocked or kinked.  They installed the tube through the hole on the side but did not trim the tube.  I am assuming the tube got kinked or turned up in the cavity so it would not let the water drain.  So after watching a video, I trimmed the tube so only about 1/2" to an 1" sticks through the hole.   A few hours later (still raining here) I check the tube and no water gushed out like before.

 

Anyone think this is an issue with just half an inch to an inch of the tub sticking through the hole?  It looks like the picture in the previous posted by @jaxcam02 but not a lot of tube pushed through.  I thought about sticking it through the cab side wall through one of the larger openings for a tie down but figured I would stick with the side wall hole.

 

I need to let it dry out and check it again next time it rains.

 

If I still have an issue I will contact the installing dealer (100 miles from me) or @GMCustomerService help.

 

I may go to my local dealer as well where I will have it services.  Just not sure if they will charge me.  Although the cover was installed before delivery so it may be covered under the GN warranty.

I have the REV cover (rebranded BakFlip) and there is water around the tailgate area. Not a big deal and the actual tailgates aren't sealed to begin with. If they are leaking significantly, it's from installer errors. I've had 4 BakFlip tonneaus and now this REV. All have been good.

thanks.  I do think it is an installer error. 

 

1. Drain tubes not draining.

2. the last 3" of each rail closest to the cab, the rail looks to be not flush.  Maybe 1/32" to 1/16" gap.  

3. at the cab side, there is maybe a 1/16" to 1/8" opening on each side (see photo below).  you can see daylight when inside the bed and it is light outside.  It does look like the rail is all the way up against the bulkhead.  Maybe I need to put a little foam in those two spots too.

 

Did you install the drain tubes through the side wall or through the bulk head tie downs?  If through he side wall, did you trim the tubes so just enough goes through the hole?  Is there any issue with water going into this cavity that looks like otherwise it would not see water?

 

Here is a photo close to the bulkhead.  Water can get into that spot.  It feels like the rail is all the way again the bulkhead but probably need to take the cover off to confirm.

Dealer installed prior to me taking delivery. I have the CarbonPro box and never bothered to check the drain tube location. I will though.
