You don't really reset anything, doesn't exactly work like clicking a button.

 

Make is the reason for wanting to "reset" the timing?

 

Other than making sure the mechanical parts are working and installed right, the timing is controlled by the computer.

If the distributor has been removed and you are trying to install it correctly: With cylinder 1 at TDC compression stroke, install the distributor with the rotor on the distributor pointing at cylinder 1. If you have a timing light, clip it on cylinder 1 spark plug wire and adjust the distributor to 0 degrees which is cylinder 1 TDC based on the timing marks on the crank pulley and timing cover.
