Hello, I currently have a 2011 F150 FX2 ecoboost truck.  I use it to tow a travel trailer (coleman Lantern 295qbwe) which weighs about 6500lbs.  F150 tows it ok not that bad.  However truck is getting near 180k miles and thinking of trading it in.  F150 has giving me many issues.  Issues have been minor AC, electric seats, thermostat, mainly tech stuff.  Worst issue was a control module for transmission that made the tranny go whacky.  Also one time during a trip oil pressure regulator screwed up dropping oil pressure.  Needless to say even though issues have been minor there were many and made this truck a little unreliable.  So I am thinking of switching to Chevy.  I have never owned a Chevy but my neighbor swears they are the best.  Anyway I am looking at the 1500 with the 5.3, maybe a 2018 or 2019 with liitle mileage.  Will that be good to tow my trailer?  Any reccomendations?  Any major issues with these trucks?

thanks

It'll pull your trailer fine. Look for one with the max tow package. Not many issues after 2018. The major issues with these trucks are the trans and the condenser and both have had been mostly addressed by 2018.

Buy a Tundra.

Crewmax Tundra's have payload capacities of around 1100 lbs. Not good if you are looking to tow a travel trailer with a tongue weight of +/- 900 lbs

I remember being in a school yard fight over a Ford vs Chevy dispute. I was pro Ford yet, in the 50+ subsequent years I've owned several GM's as well as Fords.   Pick a truck that meets your tastes, needs and price.

Pretty sure that fight was common

I grew up in the temple of FORD

You know the rest

for reliability you always want a pushrod motor. ... not sure what they use in the Tundra  but the Chevy  LS motors are the best out there, and Ram also uses a pushrod Hemi.  from past experiences I am not pleased with dodge.  and  most of the dodge trucks a build with foreign parts  like Italy , Istanbul,  middle east . Covid -19 and Trumps new protections for America might make getting parts difficult on foreign stuff.

you will get more tech support and knowlege from GM products 'cause it's made in America.   I hear the Tundra is a heavier truck so milage will suffer.

if you tow a lot. i suggest the 2500 HD trucks , no Direct injection, and your confidance will be much higher on long trips with the added  towing support, those engines have more torque  so less revving the motors, more relaxing to drive with torque instead of HP

Pick a truck that fits your needs.  Ive always had GM trucks and have...........always been fixing GM trucks.  They all have their problems and youre not going to get away from that.  Closest you can get to not working on them is to just Lease them......Not for me.  I think that Dodge is building a pretty good truck these days.......except for rust.  Overhead cam motors have been around a long time now, so maybe a Ford?  If you dont have a favorite, just flip a coin......Good Luck....

Tundras are made in San Antonio, TX; I never looked into whether or not they split production like the do the Silverados ie doubles in Indiana and the full back doors in Mexico. I used to work for a supplier on site; not sure for sourcing all of the parts. I agree with above comments in general. I like simpler push rod engines. Parts have always been easy to source for my GM products throughout the years. And also agreed on a heavier duty truck if you want to tow often; I too would rather not have to worry about anything. I met someone while I was tent camping; he had the same 2018 Silverado 5.3 as me - not max tow; he was pulling something that looks comparable to your trailer. No issues, but he said he did have some speed loss issues which is to be expected especially in the hills of TN and KY. Good luck and as is with any manufacturer, none are immune to problems.

DOHC as far as I know for both 6 & 8 cylinders.

While I doubt sourcing parts for a tundra would be difficult in the future, I think their yearly sales of Tundra are around 110,000 vs Ford & GM around 800,000 to 900,000 or so each respectfully. I prefer something more widely available so that parts and junkyard will be far widely available. Just more food for thought.
