You're right. I have absolutely no need for a 2500. But man once you've had one the 1500 is a let down. Reason for 1500? I don't have your money, lol. I'm a retired senior on a fixed income.

I dont have a 2500 T1

Not to go off topic but the 2500 is a completely different vehicle, sooted for towing it’s a very uncomfortable vehicle unless you’re hauling something. I traded in my 2016 LTZ DMax cause it was by far the most uncomfortable vehicle I’ve ever owned, bought my 2018 6.2 SLT CC standard bed and LOVING IT!

I don't know, something about the 6.0 and 6 speed.  No dynamic fuel management, no direct injection.  Maybe it's just me but I'm a big dude and the 2500 now seems a lot more comfortable.  Seats in the 2020 1500 seem smaller.  I loaded up a bed full of bagged mulch and the rear was sagging. Never happened in the 2500.  2500 just seemed more basic truck.  Old school if you will. I'm not making excuses, it's my bed and I'm lying in it but in the big picture, I miss my 2016 2500.

The 2500 and up are much heavier trucks, a lot stiffer suspension and just over all a lot heavier truck. Limited to two engines, Diesel being the most powerful but the 6.0 got lots of recognition as a great motor as well. Back on topic, I too have heard exact same as what you’ve said on the interiors of the T1’s as they’ve been reported to now have uncomfortable seats as compared to previous so you’re not the only one that’s mentioned this. The interiors also share a bit of previous but lack enough updates compared to the rival manufacturers.

I don’t miss my 2018 K2xx because I still own it!

It’s paid off, the hard to find (in my area) crew cab standard bed max tow 4wd 6.2 with Denali cluster.

1900lb payload and 11,700lb tow rating is way more than enough for me currently.

Only has 12k miles. Been pretty much problem free. Bumper to bumper warranty is up March 2021.

I plan on keeping it unless it gives me major problems or the next redesign is amazing or has something I can’t live (want) without.

When GM finally adds Super cruise and an interior redesign it *may* entice me to trade in.

Definitely something to be said about a paid off problem free truck.

You’ve got a baby on the way, congratulations! In the long run, it makes more sense to keep what you’ve got either paid off or closer to being paid off than getting into another financial contract. Most would jump at buying a new truck but there’s not to much of a difference except the extra rear room and the much needed rear ac vents, interiors are lacking when compared to rivals. Not sure on your financial situation but with a new baby comes added higher bills and most come unexpectedly which may be something to consider. In the end, they’re all just trucks and it’s all up to your personal situation and interests. I love my 18, primarily cause it’s paid off, personalized and with zero issues, so far lol. In the end, what’s more important to you is what matters.

I see older trucks everyday while out, very well maintained and to me, they just serve a purpose as they’re mass produced utilitarian vehicles. If you’ve got a problem free truck I’d keep it, new T1’s having their own issues throughout the forums. A Problem free truck is something most on these forums miss, new is just as much of a crap shoot as previous model, reliability is king. Good luck and again, congratulations on your baby.

Thanks for the congrats on the baby, we're excited.. ..

If my truck was a crew cab I'd be all about keeping it but, the double cab with the baby in the back isn't ideal. We like taking road trips to the family cabin which is about 5 hours away and adding in a 75# Golden Retriever to the mix, the double cab isn't a good long term solution for our family... With the amount of miles I drive per year (25-30k) I'll probably never keep a truck more than 6 or 7 years anyways so paid off and kept for a while probably isn't an option for me.. W/ that said my employer also makes my car payment for me as I am required to use my truck for work... Additionally I'd  only be adding 2-1/2 years onto my payments and if my final negotiations come to out as I think they will my payment will go up maybe 20 bucks a month but, better to pay a little more for something that meets my needs than a little less for something that doesn't..  My 2016 has given me almost no issues and I hate to let it go but, I can't make that back seat any bigger!

If my truck was paid off and a crew cab, I wouldn't even consider letting it go. Sounds like you've got a nice setup! I can't fit that bed & cab combo in my garage but, if I could that is what I'd want..

Won’t fit in my garage either but it has a nice shady spot in the driveway. I really wanted the 6’6” bed and crew cab. Kills me it’s outside but I keep the bird poop off, bi weekly washes, etc.

Looking for a 22’ carport to shelter from the occasional once every 10 year hail storm.

The T1xx are even longer and even a crew shortbed wouldn’t fit in a 228” 19’ garage.

I really like the looks of the T1XX GMC HD. Just don’t need that much truck. When they add the 10 speed to the 6.6 gas I’ll have to take a long test drive.

I hear ya, I’ve got a couple very large one that travel in the back with me everywhere I go too. One thing is for certain though, DON’T let the dog ride in the same area as the baby. My neighbor has a CrewCab, new baby and rather than the dog riding in the back with the baby he put a large kennel in the bed, I asked him why and he said his new baby boy got a nasty bacteria infection on multiple areas around his legs, arms and face. The pediatrician said the dog gave him E. Coli which was eating his skin. Apparently, pets unknowingly walk through their feces all the time especially when they’ve got designated areas and then lick their irritated paws contracting worms too etc etc.

Having a very young child riding center rear seat in a club cab does have its perks, is cozy and is great for reaching for wiping, feeding and holding hands [emoji6]

Good luck to you, wish you the best and do keep us updated

I upgraded to a 2020 AT4 from a 2008 Sierra All Terrain.  Not sure what series that was but I think its the one before K2. The 2020 is an amazing machine, and its got everything I could imagine wanting, but man, that 2008 was a damn nice truck.  I definitely miss it. If my 2020 serves me as well as my previous truck did, I'll be pretty happy. (it better for the price I paid lol)

Anybody who upgraded to a T1XX miss their K2? If so what do you miss? I THINK i might miss the adjustable pedals I have on mine as I have trex arms and long legs, so I pull the telescope out and push the pedals away..

We have a baby on the way in about a month and the reality of a car seat in the double cab isn't exactly roomy lol.. Was kinda thinking of getting a new truck in 2021 but, trade in values are high in my area, truck prices are decent and interest rates are cheap..

Would appreciate your feedback!

I had three girls and a 76 Corvette all five of us rode in. They sat in the cubby and looked out the back window.  But it was not my only vehicle either. Had a Gremlin :)  Oldest girl at about ten tossed a hissy fit when I bought a more 'practical' Caprice Wagon. She loved riding in the Vette in the 'rumble seat'.

There isn't anything currently in the GM lineup that would make me give up Pepper. I test drove a T1. Meh....

Buy the time that new one is old enough to require more space your current ride will be history anyway. No need to push it is there?

Pepper is a RCSB. The wife has a Terrain. Why? She said she needed more space. Okay. So when we take trips in her Terrain everything she brings with her is in the front seat. Why? So she can reach it without stopping.....

The Terrain has allot more space than our Buick Lacrosse but when the trip gets over 3 hours...she begs to take the Buick.

Point is...it really isn't a space problem...is it?   Nah....I'll keep what I have for as long as I can. 14 grandkids won't put me in a T1 CCSB.

My 18 is more than halfway paid off and **Knock on Wood** has been trouble free. One of my first vehicles that I have bought new that didn't have issues in the first year. I have had my eye on the 20/21 Silverado's due to the added features, but with more changes incoming on the 2022's things could get interesting with GM. I just hope the column shifter doesn't go away, but I fear that till be after looking at the changes to the Tahoe and Suburban.

My wife wanted to check out the new 21 Tahoe today, so we swung by the dealer which is not too far from our house and boy does that truck feel like a dream. They did a really nice job with the new Tahoe. While we were there, I wanted to check out a 6.2L Trail Boss but all they had left were the 5.3L. We decided to take one for a ride, and boy was I quite impressed with the drive and the 10 speed trans over the 6 speed in my 18. I think if I would have bought an LTZ instead of a higher end LT, I would be totally happy with my current truck. Whenever I decide to make the jump, I'll probably be going with a Trail Boss but like TXGreek I do like my current truck and the few mods I have done to it I have a hard time parting ways with it since it has been running so good.

Last week I traded in my 2015 Sierra SLT for a 2020 Sierra SLT.   I do in fact miss a few items.

Things I miss on my 2015

  • Little blind spot mirror
  • Turn indicators in the mirrors
  • Those little storage spots under the arm rest in the door panels
  • Deep center console
  • The removable cup holder
  • Rear seat storage on the back of the center console.
  • More standard USB ports
  • Sunglass holder (only my wife's spare pair would fit in it, but they were out of my way)

Things I love about my 2020

  • 3.0 Durmax
  • 10 speed transmission
  • Full LED lighting
  • Multipro tailgate
  • Power tailgate (my wife and daughter always fought with the old handle)
  • Adaptive cruise (works far better than I was expecting)
  • key less entry/push button start (about time GM)
  • neat storage in the backs of the seat (too bad it wasn't in addition to the ones I lost)
  • HVAC vents for rear seats
  • more rear legroom
  • heated rear seats
  • Apple Carplay

Things I wish they had changed.

  • No more mast antenna (really, what's this 1980?  I think this is the only modern vehicle that still has this)
  • A light for the glove box.  it's like a $2 part, come on GM.  My last three GM products all lacked this simple item.

    • My 2025 Silverado 1500 had to receive a brand-new engine (long block) under warranty last month at only around 16,500 miles. Before the replacement, the truck repeatedly displayed "Engine Oil Level Low" warnings, even though the Oil Life Monitor still showed around 50% remaining after about 6,000 miles since my last oil change. After seeing the warning several times, I checked the dipstick with the engine cold, and the oil level was completely normal. The next day, the message escalated to "Add Engine Oil." At first, I assumed it was just a faulty oil level sensor, so I brought the truck to the dealership. After inspecting the engine, they found internal cylinder wall scoring and ultimately replaced the entire long block under warranty. Before this happened, I was planning to install a 4-inch lift and suspension upgrade on my truck. After needing a new engine at just 16,500 miles, I honestly don't see the point anymore. I also contacted GM to ask whether my vehicle qualified for a buyback, but I was informed that it does not at this time. Anyway, this experience has left me with serious concerns about the long-term reliability of this engine. I sincerely hope NHTSA expands the current investigation or recall to include 2025 model and performs a thorough inspection of affected vehicles. My biggest concern is that these engines may fail shortly after the powertrain warranty expires. If GM truly stands behind this engine, then at the very least, please consider extending the powertrain warranty to 10 years for affected owners. That would go a long way toward restoring customer confidence.
    • Without exception but then I'm the odd duck, right? I know what goes into that test, how it is calculated and thus how to beat it. But EPA values are often not beaten by the general public and the government has in past years adjusted the means and methods to come to those values to more closely approximate "Joe Average".    The only real trick to beating that EPA average is don't drive like "Joe Average".    It's the same method you used to profit from "Economic Migration" and in doing so beat the 'stats'. But you, like me, are not "Joe Average".     The thing you don't seem to grasp is this "Purchasing Power Index" isn't forward looking. It doesn't predict what it going to be but looks backward and states what it was. They are not telling us what the THINK, they are telling us what they MEASURED. Example:    Wife says "I'm going to lose 40 pounds by Christmas". May she does, maybe she doesn't but the doctors office who weighed her when she made that statement and again at Christmas only REPORTS what the RESULT was. You and I can banter about what was possible and what aunt Tilly did till the cows come home but the result is the result. Arguing otherwise is.....irrational. That's all I'm saying. This isn't about:      What you are calling a 'Statistic' is a RESULT not a CALCUATION and as a result the RULE. Like gravity as a rule, it can not be broken.
    • Just wanted to say thank you for posting this. Years later, your thread is still helping Silverado owners.   I bought my 2025 Silverado 1500 in January 2025, and I've had what feels like the exact same rattle since day one. After reading your findings, I believe my truck has the same issue with the cable carrier contacting the rear sliding window. To be honest, I had pretty much given up on pursuing the issue. It wasn't until I recently drove another brand's pickup that I realized just how quiet their cabin was—and how noisy mine has been all along. On my truck, the rattle happens on almost any paved road, gets even worse on rougher pavement, and I can even hear it during braking and acceleration.   I actually referenced your thread when submitting my case to GM, hoping they'll recognize this as a recurring issue instead of treating it as an isolated incident. The reason I reached out to GM first is because my dealership told me they would need to keep the truck for at least two days just to diagnose the problem. I was concerned that even after two days, they still might not be able to identify the source of the rattle before giving the truck back to me. I had also asked a few dealerships about this issue during previous service visits, but none of them seemed to know what was causing it or had a solution. That's why I decided to contact GM directly first, hoping they might already have an official repair procedure or guidance for this issue.   I also hope GM eventually comes up with an official fix for this problem. I have a feeling there are many Silverado owners experiencing the same rattle, but most either choose to live with it or simply don't know what the cause is.   Really appreciate you taking the time to document your diagnosis. Your post is still making a difference years later.
    • I have 2 choices.
    • Do you have access to BP fuels? Some stations have Silver 91 E-0 priced the same as their 93 E-10.  There is a local Marathon with 90 alky free for $6 a gallon but I go down the road to BP for $5-ish. They also have a 100 E-0 but that stuff is $10 a pop.
