I have a 2020 trail boss custom 4.3l. Probably a stupid question, but does anyone know if this has the cylinder deactivation? If so does it take it to 4 cylinders or 3?  Also is there a way to turn it off?

There are two current versions of the Gen V 4.3 known by the names LV1, non AFM and LV3 wit AFM. No pickup has been fitted with the LV1 yet. All GM pickups that have a 4.3 have AFM. There in may lay the confusion of the ignorant.

Wow, no need for the name calling!!  Just kidding,   thanks for explaining it to me.  1 more thing, do you think this is the reason my v6 sounds like a sewing machine? Because its running on 4 cylinders? or are these engines just noisy?

It idles on all six so any clicking and clacking at idle is a product of the direct injection system. Normal.

When driving under light load and it drops cylinders you may also notice a different sound and slight vibration.

1.) Your welcome

2.) I wasn't call you ignorant. I was calling  your source ignorant. Back up and reread my post. I think you will get it.

3.) That sewing machine sound is the high pressure pump humming away.

That out of the way the three musketeers (TNTSilverado, OnTheReal & f8lvnm) who offer no help seem to have problems with English contextually. Best responce....name calling.

PS I see a typo in my first post which I corrected.

I’ll take “someone who shouldn’t be critiquing others about the English language” for $200, Alex.

Your posts are riddled with poor grammar, misspellings and the improper use of “your” vs “you’re”. Almost unreadable at times.

The 4.3l is a great motor. You’ll love it. As for the other comment by Teddy Ruxpin.  Move along old man.

I had a 4.3 in my fleet, it was rock solid, excellent runner from one port to the other. Burned just as much fuel as the 5.3’s and the 6.2’s, was the #1 choice for inner city driving by my employees. The workers also loved its reliability, zero breakdowns, wish I could’ve said the same for the diesels and 5.3’s.

Unless you’re towing it’s the great little engine that could.

Was that motor the Ecotec3 Gen 5 or an earlier 'iron' 4.3? My father has run those iron motors to over 3/4 million miles.
