Hello all.

I have a 2017 2wd CC 5.3L auto, just this week hit 70k miles.

My problem is at a steady speed, I hear an on and off low roar coming from the engine area. It goes away if I let off the gas or apply more gas. The engine is also hesitating during this issue. I got on a highway and put it on cruise and it does the same thing. I can even see the RPM's go up and down.

That's a good looking truck!

Any vibrations? TC could be going bad, the engine revs fluctuating (flares), usually are tied to the transmission.  Maybe a lifter failing? Any CEL's present?

I would guess it's the throttle body. Dealership + warranty = fixed

Would that be something covered under warranty?

No vibrations, just the hesitating. Almost like something is binding. That's the other odd thing, no CEL's at all.

I would suggest this.

Freeway on cruise control to duplicate the problem. When it starts acting up down shift the transmission to the next lower gear.

See what happpens.

I will try that later today and report back.

Is the transmission temperature crazy hot?

I looked at that and saw a temp of 190. Is that out of normal?

Ok, stand down.

Definitely the trans.

Barely made it back picking up lunch.

Severe slipping.

Called tow company to take it to the local reputable trans shop.

I'll update the findings when I can.

Yeah it's the tcc/trans. What you were describing in your original post indicated something different. Best of luck

Don't you have warranty? The bill for that is going to be steep.

70k on the odometer and I neglected to buy an extended warranty when I bought the truck a couple months ago. ?

Good luck mrpj. Is your trans the 6 speed or 8 speed? I just had to replace a 6 speed on a 2016 Silverado with 77,000 miles. No warranty so it was a $4800 out of pocket cost. This is my 4th Silverado and will be my last...

It is the 6 speed.

Should be hearing from the shop today what the damage is.

What exactly did you go through before going down?

Was your shop a dealer or a local independent?

Mine started with a couple incidents of low intermittent whining noise when shifting gears one evening when driving home from work (happened twice for a couple seconds each). Drove it to a dealership the next day and they told me I needed a total transmission replacement (without even opening the transmission). So I opted to take it to a second local independent shop for a second opinion and the truck broke down before I got there (transmission/torque convertor just would not engage). So it went from driving normal to stranded on the side of the road within 24 hours. Independent shop recommended total replacement transmission replacement as well.

After my experience, a coworker took his 2015 in which had 75k miles to have the dealer "check" the transmission. They offered him a fluid flush/replacement service which came with an extra 30,000 mile warranty for the transmission. May be something to ask your dealership about if it is not toast already.

Also, I wrote a letter to Chevrolet Corporate outlining my current problems and long history of owning Chevrolet vehicles. They did respond but denied any form of reimbursement because I had an independent shop perform the work and not the Chevy dealership.

I am interested to hear how yours comes out. Please keep us updated.

I didn't get the whining noise but did experience the exact scenario listed in the pdf below. Then it went to nothing in my driveway. No drive or reverse.

I have a 2017 5.3L 8 speed and was experiencing the same issue. The dealership flushed the transmission which has seemed to correct the problem.

Hope this helps.

That pdf describes exactly what mine felt like. Drove it like that for a couple days, then it wouldn't shift at all.

Has anyone had any luck recovering cost being outside of warranty?
