I recently Posted about my truck reaching 100,000 miles. It's been flawless, still gets great mileage and runs great. I never installed a catch can and was wondering if any of you guys have gone to 200,000 miles without one and how is your truck performing?

Have you done any valve cleaning in your 100k?

I think there's just to many variables to compare trucks with the same mileage. How the performance of your truck varied over the last 100 is the best indicator of what you could expect in another 100. That being said, do you have any pictures of your intake valves?

It would be awesome if we could see your valves!

Not sure how relevant it is but when I first got the truck in 2015 just for fun I took it to the track and it ran 15.4's , I ran it again this past fall and it was running similar times, so it didn't lose any power.

I didn't buy the truck to race and I really don't get on to much, but I have a 69 Chevelle and frequent the track with it "the chevelle" often .

My 2016 WT with the 5.3 has 170k on it. Trans blew about 40k miles ago. But the engine is fine.

Sorry about the trans but thanks for the response!

Hello. I had an '08 Yukon (5.3), that I had through 178,000+ miles before I sold it. Never had an oil catch can. Purchased 2020 Silverado (5.3), purchased an oil catch can. 7K + miles and have seen the residual oil. Surprising. Glad I installed the oil catch can.

Am I wrong but before Direct injection , pre 2014, a catch can didn't do anything.
I had a bunch of 5.3's that had big miles no catch can.

My boss has a 14 Silverado 5.3 with 240K on the clock. Only thing he’s done is a tranny and torque and oil changes. He drives 140 miles per day to and from work with all of it being interstate. His truck is bone stock and is planning to drive it until at least 350K or more he said. He’s averaging 21.5 too on MPG’s he said.

Not sure how much they could of helped , the old injection helped keep the back of the valves clean. My son has a 2011 6.2 with 225,000 miles no can and no issues with carbon build up.

I've seen the backs of intake valves from carburetor motors coked closed. Not just a DGI problem. Makes it worse but it is not exclusive. Valve coking isn't totally PCV related. Over rich fueling. Valve guides and seals kill them faster. EGR is a contributor. Add an ineffective oil detergent package and you get a Chia Pet growing in  your intake. And yes PCV IF ring seal in ineffective.

    • Looking up on the web you can the information that would seem obvious. You asked engine components to do more. You get more wear. The answer is they can last just as long but required more maintenance. Apparently having to change lifters, cam and associated components are maintenance or repairs. In some research the normal life span of valve train components are 80-100 miles with 3-5K miles oil change. So the next logical conclusion would be cost per mile. I use that analogy with my wife all the time with vehicles. My Odyssey is approaching 170K. The cost per mile will go up at 200K with maintenance. Looking at a low cost car. A K-4 with a 10-10 warranty. Selling my Ridgeline that’s about to hit the same maintenance milestone. My argument becomes not only I get worry free driving. But at no cost increases. Because I take the money from my Ridgeline and maintenance savings and other potential savings. I’m driving for free. So tying it with a bow. It makes you wonder. Is this a grand conspiracy by the auto makers? Raise the potential maintenance high enough. Buyers by extended warranty to 100K miles. Do the minimum maintenance required. Trade in at the warranty end. How long should they last? That question is what keeps people up at night. The answer is much more complicated than it used to be.
    • Could you cite your source on this?  I cannot find any reference to the US secretly taking the oil.  I find references that the US helped oil tankers move through the Strait of Hormuz, but nothing about what you're stating.
    • Same thought, also the everything doesn't have the details real photos do (talking about the noise in the photo)
    • Since the media YOU and your buddies are programmed to watch failed to mention this, I'll fill you in.   Trump admitted today that we've grabbed 150 MILLION barrels of oil from the Iranian tankers locked in the Strait by our Navy. We turned off their transponders, took them out to sea in the dark of night since they have zero radar capabilities anymore, offloaded every drop onto another vessel, and put them back by morning so no one was the wiser. That oil has been en-route THROUGHOUT the entire conflict.   Main reason he admitted this is to let even guys on our own side who joined leftists in complaining about the prices that he hears us all, and has taken steps to make sure this didn't spiral into a BAD situation ... just like the mainstream media has been PRAYING would happen, just so they could gloat. Amazes me how these people are rooting for the destruction of THEIR OWN HOME, just to make a President they don't agree with or like look bad! That's next level TDS!   I know your not capable of giving our President the benefit of the doubt, again due to your deep programming, but THIS is why oil never hit $150 a barrel as predicted by your programmers, AND the reason oil continues falling. Like I said before, Trump's got a plan, and this is proof of it. By the end of his term, we're going to be in GREAT shape for a change!   Since I just spent $3,000 this week on #2 heating oil and gasoline, the war most certainly is ending! 🤣   https://mxmnews.com/article/ba359ac9-2711-4851-92de-187f2400f2dd?breaking-trump-cancels-iran-strikes-deal-now-approved-by-all-parties
    • No leaks. Replaced the condenser 3 years ago. Problem was found to be caused by the A/C blend door actuator. Just replaced it and it's blowing out the cold air it used to when I bought it.
