Well when you look at the curb weight of each vehicle.  Similarly equipped. Here are the weights

Terrain AWD: 4049 lbs

Equinox AWD:3758lbs

Quite a bit difference.  I don’t think the salesman is off by much by claiming this!

Anyways, I just got back from another trip in my stepdads Sierra and it’s a big difference on interior sound compared to my Silverado. My next truck will be another Sierra after the refresh in 2023. I would have bought this 2020 Denali this past Wednesday if they would have gave me a deal but they wanted $11,500 difference.  Too much!

Good luck with your decision.

Don't forget higher trim levels have the Bose system that includes ANC (active noise cancellation).  That undoubtedly makes a difference.

I just bought a new 2020 2500 diesel.  It had/has/ a rattle in the dash.  It is mostly intermittent but generally only at start up.   Annoying as all hell.   The sales team has tried to fix it and has helped but it still rattles sometimes?   Is there a material that could be applied for a fix to this issue?  The rattle is at the center of the console?

So I got my truck back today and they fixed the rattle and they said “they had to relocate the transmission harness on top of trans to prevent it from rubbing on the firewall”!  He said they have had a few of these trucks with my issue. He also had to put some loctite on a couple center console bolts because they were a little loose and prevent them from coming out again.  I was very pleased with their service on my truck. Fixed all my issues, along with rear brake squeak. Truck is super quiet inside now. Hopefully this helps you if you or anyone else if you are having a rattle in the dash area.

Maybe that explains why my RST has a slightly higher  (about 200lb) tow capacity then my bro-n-law SLT X31. The trucks have the same 3.0, drivetrain, bed and doors.

The towing difference is due to how SAE 2807 is calculated.  You must use EPA curb mass for vehicles under 8600 lb GVW.  GMC EPA curb mass is higher than Chevy.  EPA curb mass means you must include every option that has over 33% take rate.  GMC typically has to use a denali mass vs chevy using LT mass.  This is why the fuel economy and tow numbers are different between the brands.

The acoustic packages are the same between brands.  There are three levels of acoustics:  work truck/custom, LT, and lux.  This is why you will see things like hood blankets, rear wheel liners, and rear seat acoustics not on work trucks/custom.

What did they do for the rear brake squeak?

THere is a LOT of sound deadening measures on my AT4...kevlar wheel liners, rubber shields around edges of hood, under the hood, front doors have to have something extra in them...I drive with no radio often and the noise is less than my wife's 4Runner and my old Tundra.

I have a 2019 high country and my step dad just bought a 2020 SLT Sierra and I can tel you without a doubt the Sierra is quieter. I also owned a 2015 Terrain and my grandfather has a 2015 equinox and my terrain was quieter. So when I bought my 2020 Acadia for my wife the sales man states the GMC put about 150 lbs more of sound deadening into the terrain compared to the equinox.

Id say from my experience the GMC is quieter.

Salesmen say a lot of things that they are unfamiliar with, so beware.

Oh I’m aware. I buy vehicles every 3 years and I listen to what they say, but take it as a grain of salt. But I know for a FACT that GMC vehicles that I’ve owned have been quieter than they’re Chevy counterparts.

2015 Acadia quieter than moms Traverse

2015 Terrain quieter than grandfathers Equinox

stepdads 2020 Sierra quieter than my 2019 High Country

So I do believe that GMC does use more sound deadening materials from my buying/driving experience

I have inside information from a reliable source that the difference is from the Chevy bow tie on the grille. The wind noise is huge.

I haven't noticed the difference between Silverado/Sierra, but I will say my T1 is noticeably louder on the highway than my K1 was. And my K1 had the Duratracs...

Rear brake squeak? Can you tell me more? I have a 2020 AT4 with about 14,500 on it and I've noticed that especially in the morning just coming to a stop my brakes are squeaking and that doesn't seem right to me. What did they do?

They put on new pads. Only helped for about 2 weeks. Was backing out of garage on Monday morning and they squeaked again. Only squeak 2 or 3 times when it’s really cold out and in reverse after being parked for few hours. It’s the pads and the way they are constructed I believe. Because the rotors look brand new still. I have almost 13k on truck.
