Mmmmm Mobil 1 . i use to use it in my MBZ 320 several years ago. after oil changes  I would empty the jug and would see what looked like brown sludge in the bottom of the fresh Jug.  then after 30K miles I started to notice under the oil cap , it was heavily varnished, then months later I started to get a lot of white snot under the cap. this was causing the PCV valve to varnish up and not function in evacuating the crankcase vapor.

 

so there you go $40 jug of Mobil 1 , ehh I think I'll pass on that trash

Some lifters are failing while still on the break in oil with almost no miles. Mobil 1 is a proven excellent motor oil. I believe that the lifter failures are a combination of poor engineering and quality control. Some lifters are failing soon after being replaced on warranty.

Mobil 1 is just as good as any other dexos oil.

As with any oil, change early and change often. 3000miles max imo.

This may sound silly but I no longer have a 'Pat" answer for OCI or Brand. As far as the OP's question someone who uses it and has had a failure is the only person that can say...right?

it WAS excellent oil til they started to mix conventional oil in with the synthetic part. now its junk. it puts varnish all over the internals. its not synth.

 

I use the redline stuff and my motor has 60k miles and there is zero varnish sludge under the valvecovers

I'm a Red Line guy so don't misunderstand. I've just learned there is no "One size fits all" for a host of reasons and I tire of arguing about it. Every part of IT from oil to OCI to filter choice. I use what I use and share when it seems right to do so. Even so I use other oils when it seems right to do so.  

 

My experience with Red Line is much like yours. Every motor, every time. (Yea, exceptions exist) But some people like $2 a quart conventional so they can use it if they like it.

The failure is in the quality of the product not the use of the lubrication.  This is why you see them fail with less than 1k miles on the vehicle. 

 

To me like most manufactures, they use products that they get from the lowest bidder to keep cost down.  So the quality isn't going to be there and all these issues is a good indication of that.

Can we see some supporting evidence to back your claims of mobil1. None of it is making any sense to me.

 

I don't use mobil1.

 

Drinking and posting is not a good mix..

I use some of the products and likely will for as far as I can see into the future. No one has a complete line of products in which every one of them is 'all that and a can of beans'. AMSOIL severe gear is still in the diff of Pepper but Valvoline Full Syn. is in the diff of Dizzy. Maybe Red Line on the next exchange. :dunno: 

 

I had just moved to AMSOIL in Dizzy when the bottom fell out of it's oil economy. Nothing AMSOIL did but until I sort that out one way or the other I'll do 2K OCI's with $2.50/quart Kirkland instead of pouring $10/quart AMSOIL on the ground. I moved back to Red Line in Pepper based on cleanliness & HTHS. I can see MPT on the horizon. 😉 

 

So nothing 'happened' to them. They are still who they are.  

 

I base my OCI  on TAN vs TBN, dilution and cleanliness. In my Honda's that has meant 7.5K OCI's. In Pepper and the Harley 5K and in Dizzy currently 2K. Look. If they meet or exceed (and I prefer exceed) the current SN standard for anything I have on the lot AND have an API license, the exact add package is covered. They are not going to tell you anything useful anyway.

 

Pretty much everything is at least 8 TBN and between the min and max ZDDP with a dispersant that 'works' with the ZDDP in both SPFI/GDI applications. That the case and being assured by the license I move on to the best base oils I can afford FOR THE APPLICATION. 

 

I've found that it is near impossible to get anyone to tell you truth and the few that do....well they are worth keeping close. Same seems to be true of services. Everyone want's your money...few want to earn it. I spent the good part of the summer day replacing nails in my new roof that 'jacked back'. Seems they ran out of the 'right' nails so used what they had. Cost me the same 😡. I paid for the best and yet still didn't get it. Great advertising though. 😉

you can pull the valve covers on your motor,, that should be enough evidence to change your mind
