for the money spent MOBIL1 is junk "to me"  when I buy a fresh jug , pour into my car and see a brownish sludge in the bottom of the empty jug. THIS IS MY SCIENTIFIC ANALYSIS.. wtf is that crud doing in there?

Huh I've never noticed this before maybe I should check next time. Although I did switch to Pennzoil since it became the cheapest oil by a dollar or so

Edit: Never mind I am retarded. I got Mobil 1 and Valvoline mixed up lol

There it is! I couldn't agree more with your perspective.

The only problem though... you tend to kill a thread when you share your wisdom 😁

Yea...I've notice that.

Wanna talk oil?

Or be marketed to by " entrenched interests that advert there".   Why I departed that place 10 years ago.  When I met fellow professionals in the lubes and fuels field they would give me hell about how they went there to promote their products as a normal poster.  That was all I needed to leave a site I help found.

Oh boy, do you have to be careful what information you pull from there! Place is littered with Mockingbirds too. Reminds me of the 100th monkey story. Get just 100 monkeys in the jungle to repeat a behavior and the entire population will follow. Marketing 101. Consider TV. Whatever the next social 'norm' is being pushed is being pushed in TV long before it becomes the "normal'. First couple ever to be seen in bed on TV was Fred and Wilma Flintstone. And were are we now in primetime TV?

Just wondering out loud, if the OP ever got the answer to his question🤔🤨😬😴

Not yet. No one with a lifter failure that was using Mobil 1 has stepped up yet. 🤨

I use M1 and change my oil every 3,000 miles. No problems so far.

I also used M1 in other vehicles and I know people who only use M1. None of us have ever had any oil related issues while using M1.

I think an oil change every 3000 miles is the key. I don't care what science says, I can hear and feel a difference.

As for the brown sludge. More than likely the oil you bought was old, and the additive package fell out of suspension.

It may seem rediculous but I always give my oil a good shake for this very reason 😋

If additive falls out of suspension thats not good. In modern days and it rarely happens,.... it may be contaminated with water most likely at a very low but damaging level.  Shell and Chevron have seen those issues in the past 10 years at times but pulled all the product off the shelf once they figured it out.

If dye then that would make sense.  Dye and odorants are used to distinguish and mask formulations. Dye is like the most expensive component in a given lubricant. No ******!

XOM is a monolithic company and their additive company co owned by SHELL, yes that Rotella, Pennzoil Shell, is called Infineum and they do not make crap additives or formulations that are defective.   Worked closely over the years with them ( former Paramins additive company). Top notch.

If XOM lubricants caused an issue I'd like to dig into that!  Most likely its the lack of quality at Daimler Benz. Sadly.

There are fake oils being sold and if its not sealed I wouldn't buy it.

Wait for what? Topics up for debate aren't necessarily won by fact, but by the person's ability to argue the facts. I'm sure you could just as easily argue facts that prove him wrong. Or for that matter... imo. I think you'd be able to argue that unicycles should be the designated mode of transportation for the 2025 mission to mars :D
