Curious what's out there for the highest miles on the 3.0L. I have a 2020, that's at 63k now. Love this drivetrain. Only complaint is the fuel knock that's intermittent, not sure why it does that.

Are you talking about the clattering at 1500-2000 rpm under light acceleration at low speed? If so seems to be pretty common. Some comments out there that it may be related to fuel quality. Maybe try an additive. 
 

Anyhow, there are more than a few trucks on autotrader with 90k+. Search Silverado 1500 with diesel fuel type and set the distance to Any, sort by highest mileage first.

$58k for a pre-refresh half-ton High Country with almost 100,000 miles on it. Will this madness ever end?!? :smash:

Right?! The used market is awful right now.  The entire market is awful.  We all know who to thank for the economy turning to ******.

This is great info. I saw many trucks on there up to 100K. Great to see for this 3.0. Its really a winner. Any big issues would be out there with those miles. Lets face it, most people come to a forum for research or to complain about their issue. Not to say how great their truck is and that it has no problems. If I lost my truck tomorrow, I would ONLY consider the 3.0. It has been fantastic.

It’s going to end! And end HARD!!!  All I can say is: better have some money put away because a recession is coming!

It's a different fuel map for when the truck is doing an active regen. You're hearing injector noise, it's not anything to do with any of the other moving parts. To be honest, it's my #1 complaint about an otherwise awesome engine. Regens happen way too often, probably because the DPF is small and either GM didn't want to pony up for a bigger one, or there were packaging considerations since the DPF is under the hood.

My neighbor got the new 3.0 (gmc/at4) a little before I got my 2.7 ho and hauls light gear (maybe few thousand lbs) to remote field for work so wanted high economy/longevity, so has about double miles I do, maybe 25,000 (40,000 kms) and has gone limp mode 4 times due to emissions stuff, he's pretty choked. Major car guy, two built mustangs, built bmw m40, lifts in his garage, couple trucks, motorbike also and works on all himself. Having said that...any of you gone into limp mode? If so how many times in your mileage?

Never. Not at all common on the 3.0 and certainly not repeatedly after whatever the issue is gets fixed. It’s not something that just happens on a fluke because the emissions system feels like causing an issue that day.

 

What’s the issue causing the “limp mode”? What codes is he getting? What does the dealer say or what have they replaced so far?

I have to catch him and get those answers for ya, I'm watching for him. Was curious if this was a pattern able thing with the gm diesels and how many a guy may have to live with per x amount of miles. His work partner has an older eco-diesel he was able to delete and no issues, gets better mileage also, they figure due to the better aero on brick front gm's and trailboss at4 lift/tires. They both do the same mileage to these remote sites empty or with the light trailer.

Sounds like Canada needs to hurry up and finish a delete and tune.🤷🏼‍♂️

34k on my 2020, no limp mode or performance issues to speak of. I do, however, keep myself aware of silt levels and burn off cycles using an iDash.

46k on a 22' LTD  . No issues at all. Wish there was an indicator for when it was in regen. (besides buying something like idash)

Caught him, says def injector, replaced each time.

    • Well one of our most reliable vehicles was sold yesterday. The first and only I gave for free to a grandkid. If they got skin in the game they take care of it. My wife bought new. Five years later my daughter got it to use. We got it back and gave it to our grandson after graduation. He did zero maintenance just oil changes. When the AC quit he drove his mother’s car rather than get it fixed. Instead he just bought a beater and sold the Elantra.

    • What’s missing in all this is patience and investment in the future. Buy a 170K starter home. Ten years later sell it invest in a more expensive home. Eventually you’ll have a 600K home and pay starter home payments. Buy a starter car. Maintain it well. Save the payments after it’s payed for then buy an expensive car if you desire.     • People mislead themselves. Statistics are highly useful indicators.   Here's the tie-in to this thread. If an oil sample tests shows a wear indicator of 7 using cheaper ACDelco oil, and a wear indicator of 2 (lower = less wear) using a particular brand of Mobil oil, and wear has a linear relationship with engine lifespan, anyone could assume that Mobil is reducing wear by more than 50% (let's just say a 200% reduction for you red state people trying hard to do math) which leads to increasing engine life by 2x. Perhaps, in a vacuum, by itself, when dreamed by AI.   Yeah?! That's what the statistic is saying, isn't it?   No, it isn't. It didn't come out and say engine life is doubled. That's a very bad assumption, and a case of severe myopia by assuming something potentially untrue about the only data point in focus.   Average cost of a new car is 50k. You bet it is.   The median cost of a new car is more like 35k. Expensive cars are skewing the perception that "average" now means a $50k price of entry for a very average automobile. And that's not true. People who don't understand statistics twist the living heck out of them to mean all sorts of things they don't actually mean.   "Average" new car payment is $1000/month. Yep, it is. And in that number are all the $35k new car buyers who bring significant equity, and the $25k new car buyers who finance the car for a month just to get a rebate, and then pay it off. Know what isn't in that number? All the payments made by people who don't finance a car.   Picking one's own data point (don't have a car payment, never paid $50k for a new vehicle, my house cost $170k, I afforded a middle class lifestyle on $4.50/hr) is just a data point. Just like earning $25/hr in an area where the median home price is almost $1 Million is a data point. In fact, it's a lot of data points given that 80% of the US population lives in/around major cities. They're not idiots; the vast majority of them do it to make a living because that's where the big money is.   The highs have become higher, lows have become lower, and how your personal mileage varies is not truth for an entire country. At the same time you can't NOT acknowledge the data. While it doesn't paint YOUR personal picture, it certainly tints the reality that you also live in, as does your single data point.
