Good news, my daughter got married this week!  Bad news, while dropping off her 8FT tall seating chart, this dummy side swiped a mail box, AND, one of the groomsmen laid his belly/buttons of his dress shirt on the side of the bed resulting in a through the paint scratch from the mailbox and multiple smaller ones from the buttons.

$1174.00 to fix it.  My truck is my baby, I have PPF on the front to stop all the rock chips, don’t go through brushed car washes, etc., to give you an idea of who I am, but it IS a truck…

What would you all do?  It is a lot of money.

It's s truck. It's big and it's going to get scratched several times. Make look it as best as you can cheaply. You probably won't even think about the damage in a few months.

I am hoping you did NOT get a body shop estimate or this will show up on a carfax.........Fix it the $1100 is peanuts compared to the truck let the Groomsman kick in for his mistakes as well.

Oh hell, I had 0 idea just getting an estimate would show up!!  It’s a small local shop but I did get a write up/breakdown :(

How should I have gone about it?

If the truck is a spotless 'my baby' , as indicated then I'd get it fixed.

If it's in good shape but in well worn work clothes it would get likely get left as a battle scar.

If it is a small shop maybe it  was not computerized and or entered yet ask them on Monday and they can hopefully not put it in, any claims will show up so just cash it out.

If it is too late then just keep the dated pics and show the actual damage when you go to sell the truck eventually.

Carfax/Autocheck can devalue a vehicle quite easily.

Cheers

This is great to know, thank you so much!  I will not be running it through insurance, sadly, due to various discounts I would lose as a result.  If I get a quote but pay cash, it would likely still show, I’m sure?  So if I’m gonna get it fixed (maybe), there’s no way around it showing up?

thanks again for the info!

It will not show up on anything unless you file it with insurance. I've never had anything to show up if I pay it myself and don't file. I would have it fixed if it were mine. I know it is a lot of money, but if you are not planning on keeping it for several years you need to fix it. I would have to have it fixed anyway myself, especially where the scratches are located.

If it were me I would get it fixed. those little scratches may come out with wax and the big scratch was it a plastic mailbox or metal box? The big one from the picture looks like a rub mark and that may come out. I would take it to a detail shop and see what they say. If the big one is a scratch your looking at rust later if you leave it.

It’s definitely a scratch (can feel it with my nail, so through the pain), and it’s slightly dented too.  With a steel bed, it will rust for sure with how much rain we get in TN.  That’s why I was contemplating Dr Colorchip to cover it up, but the dent would still be there then.

It’s a tough place to photograph well.

This was after I washed it, covered it with quick detailer for a very small amount of protection.

Get a mobile dent man to take of dent first .. then DR Colorchip. Think the beds are all allum now, but I wouldn't worry about rust either way.

I guess 2020 was still steel?  Magnet sticks to it.

That might work well, as Dr Colorchip is pretty freaking amazing.

    • Thanks for response. Leak was right under drivers seat or thereabout.   Had checked by other mechanics and have read other information.   The solution can be a tad complicated and replacing multiple parts And with some.  The issue was still the same.   The brakes do work.   Just that the pedal is softer and goes further down.  But the brakes do work.
    • Breaking News!    I'm going to tell you that I'm going to tell you.  Then I'm going to tell you what I'm going to tell you.  Then I'm going to tell you.  Then I'm going to tell you what I told  you.  Then I'm going to tell you what I'm about to tell you on the other side of the break.  Then we're going to break. Then I'm not going to tell you what I told you I was going to tell you.  But I'll tell you something else that is Breaking News just coming to the desk that everyone reported on yesterday.  Then I'll tease a human interest telling I'll get to on the other side of a larger break. Then I'll tell you one item in 20 seconds and go back to an even longer break. Longest break of the night.  Then I'll tell you a fluff piece that takes 10 seconds and sign off into a three minute break while you wait for the next 30 minutes of rinse and repeat on the local news.    In al you'll get about 12 minutes of something, 5 minutes of which is worth hearing in a 30 minute show and 18 minutes of advertising at a sound level twice as loud as the news.    Of course you can switch to cable news and hear 12 different people tell the same four stories in much the same format as the Network News for 20 hours of which the majority will be advertising.  And four hours of late night Specials about things you wonder why you stayed up to listen to. Half of which will be repeats.....   OR you can go for a drive
    • Did you ever figure this out? My 2022 Trail Boss, and now my 2026 LT did this from time to time.  I believe it was more connected to Android Auto and my phone being the cause. Maybe try going for a drive, sans cell phone.... and see if it happens?
    • I have a 2026 Silverado LT, the non bose as well.  Upgrading the door speakers is pretty straightforward. You could honestly go to walmart, or Auto Zone/ O Reilly and get a set of 6x9s for the front, and 6.5s for the rear. You do also have to get some adapters for each, but they are like $10 a pair on Amazon. Then some plug and play harnesses that are about $10 a pair on Amazon as well.  And I would also suggest a 10 pack of the Amazon Basics sound deadening. Slap that all around the speakers and on the open metal of the inside of the door. And your golden.   I am currently doing this with my Silverado. Although I am having a bit of trouble because I am snooby I guess and bought some Alpine S2 S69c's which are 2 way components and I am having to wire from the door up to the dash....  Having never installed speakers before, its taking me just a bit to get everything correct. But if you dont buy expensive component speakers, and just some $40-$50 door speakers. You will DRASTICALLY improve the sound over these stock paper cone junk speakers. I thought my Silverado had an issue with the radio/ sound for a while.  Come to find out.  The stock speakers are just THAT SH*TTY   I cannot wait to have some decent sound in the truck   What did you end up doing?
    • Its all automatic based on yaw sensor data.  If enough incline is detected, it engages.   My recommendation though would be to disengage it before driving off and not let it auto disengage by touching the gas pedal.  The HD trucks use the same setup as prior years, the drum in hat park brake.  But now with an electric actuator.  If you drive off repeatedly over time, it can torque the park brake shoes and can also prematurely wear them out.           Electric console shift will set the park brake on flat ground too.  Pretty sure they've got it programmed to activate every time.
