Hello All, while driving at a steady speed with the cruise control on, A message came on the info center saying" Service Brake pad monitor" I do scroll through my information every time I`m behind the wheel and the last reported pad wear was 82% front and 89% rear. Why would this message pop up on my screen all of a sudden? TIA mileage @ 326xx

I got this recently too. Rear pads were down to 2mm, front at 3mm, in other words I needed new brakes at all around. I rarely tow or haul anything and needed  new brakes at 21,500 miles.

check to see if your truck has been updated, the 2019 had a problem reading correctly and there was an update for it

I would say it has not, I have owned it since 2021 with 3, 056 miles on it. And to my knowledge It has not seen a GM dealer for any updates or have I received any information on this.

I physically checked the brakes when the new wheels were installed before the winter season, I would have to say the brake pad monitor was accurate with the fronts being @ 82% and the rears @ 89%. As mention I was simply in cruise mod of the freeway when the info stated to Service Brake pad monitor.  When I have a decent weather day I will pull a wheel and have a look...to me this just seems that something is in error. A battery disconnect did not reset anything.

finally had the chance to pull the wheels and have a look. I have never ever seen that the rear brake pads wear faster than the front pads ever. The Front pads look even and normal for 32xxx miles while the rear inboard pads showed 3/16, and the outer pads about 3/8s thick on both sides... WTH! sensor is so close to the rotor if not touching. before this system alerted me, I had 89% life and no 3/16 inner pad left... everything else looks normal, except the rotors a bit rusty, and appears to be of CHEAP metals. Is this due to the electric rear calipers (e brake) or is it just a ****** system?

Yup, this system is crap.  Exact same thing happened to mine and it had the pre purchase brake monitor system update, plus it was done 2 more time for sure and possibly 1 more time after. Same here like %80ish front and 78% back and within maybe 2 weeks all pads and rotors needed replacing due to the severe wear.

27000kms bam "Service Pad monitor System"...needed rear pads.

Is their a class action on this yet? My dealer (who covered the labour since the truck is new) said there was another in the same day for the same thing ultra low miles. This is my 4th Sierra from this dealer and I've never done brakes before 80,000kms before. Ridiculous. It needs to be covered under warranty. It's a manufacturing defect.

I just got nailed for this. My Brake Pad LIfe reading was at 80%. Then the Service Brake Pad monitor warning came on about 3 weeks ago. Finally got into the dealer today, and they told me that I had no rear pads left, and front were at 1mm, and I needed all new rotors too!

If there was no system, I would have been monitoring things myself, and had the pads done before the rotors were f'd.  I was at 80k, so I can understand needing to do them, but the the fact that it said they had 80% left right on my dash everyday made me think that.... well... I had 80% brake pad life left.

What really pissed me off is the service manager telling me that "it can go from 80% to worn out real fast", and then saying that I should have known to come in right away when it said 80%!  I said 4 years to go from 100% to 80%, and then 3 weeks to go from 80% to totally f'd!

I have had the same experience with both of my Denali 1500s. I had to replace front and rear pads and rotors on my 2015 at 40,000 miles.

My 2020 has the performance brake option and I just had to replace the front Brembo pads and rotors at 36,000 mile @ a do it myself parts cost of $1,200.00.

Not sure what GM is doing to end up with an inferior braking system, when this never seemed to be an issue.
