I did confirm what I already knew. MTD makes most of the mowers. Even the one I just bought. I was told Cub Cadet was their up brand. Interestingly with all the box stores close to me. Tractor supply was the cheapest. I find them to be a little more helpful, same with my local Ace Hardware.

I just finished mowing. The cruise control makes the foot pedal set up seamless . The turning radius makes backing up half of what it was. That combination even with less cut my seat time is the same. It’s quieter and the seat is more comfortable. Happy so far.

The only difference is I can move it off without pulling the lever to disconnect the transmission. I’ll have checked that out. Couldn’t do that with the last two

Went to tractor supply and sure enough they neutral when off. You have to set the brake

Yeah, not sure why the pin is even there, mine rolls fine without pulling it too. Battery is small but an AGM. Mine has done very well. Always starts, never even had it on a charger.

Cub has two different product lines just like John Deere. There’s some “affordable” box store models, and then some fancier dealer-only models.

Ask my son, he bought a commercial Gravely Zero Turn 60 inch mower.

Ariens owns Gravely and they make their own mowers.  Pretty good ones too.  The engines are made by other manufacturers.

Update. I probably mowed maybe 15 times with this mower. Making my last few passes I feel some surging. Oh no. Probably a belt slipping or transmission problem. Of course my brother has already replaced the hub on the old one. Park it next to the other two of my old ones I gave him after ten years of service. My theory of replacing them so I don’t have to deal with breaking down. Will be challenging. I can’t even see that belt. I’m sure the warranty doesn’t include the belt. I’ll put it out of my mind until the next mowing. No I won’t. It will be all I think about.

Damn. Every other time I bought a mower I bought from a dealer that serviced them. Just in case. They all usually made ten years without even a blade replacement. Maybe two, three oil changes. I always mow when the grass is wet. So I figured ok tractor supply sells cub cadet. I like the color and name. Dad had one in New Jersey it lasted a long time. This would probably be my last in ten years at 79 I’ll probably hire it out. At least tractor supply had a number of a mower service. So I’ll run it until it stops moving. If it’s a belt it’s probably not covered. Now it will be a challenge. How long can I make it go? I looked up how to change the belt. Well that ain’t going to happen. I just call my brother get my now fixed old one give him the new one. Depending on how much it cost to put a belt on this one.

Yeah some are a real nightmare to change the belt, I had to remove the rear differential on 1 to change the drive belt

I got a number from the recommended service center from tractor supply. I could reach up a feel the belt it’s chunky. So it’s still under a year old. I’ll see what the deal is and how much it could cost. I guess something could have got to the belt. It would be hard for me not to see it. I mow with the deck high. It won’t be a surprise if I went to my last dealer and traded it in for one like my last one. Of even gave it to my brother and got the fixed old one back.

Well damn. I had a first. The new mower with maybe 6 hours mowing is in the shop. Almost done 3 weeks ago I felt a surge. After checking by reaching up there’s a chunk out of the drive belt. After looking up on YouTube to see the procedure on changing that belt I found a servicing dealer. I don’t have a clue how something could have gotten to that belt. A ask about the warranty knowing the probable answer. I answered I realize belts aren’t covered. A event had to cause that, not use or wear. My brother being a wise guy asked if I wanted to borrow one of my old mowers. I had one surprise this past week. An invoice under an estimate for work on my house. Maybe my mower will be done and an improper installation will be the cause.

If I thought for a second that anything new was better than my 10yrs old Husky POS I would buy one, problem is I dont see anything better out there so I keep limping this one along.

The drive belt is for sure a pain to replace. The deck has to come off and it has to be lifted to get underneath it. I usually do the belt when I pull the trans out for its oil change and filter cleaning (it was bought at a Lowes so it has a grossly undersized trans)

I always got 10 years service out of my mowers. I changed brands on this one. I had Ariens the two previous mowers. The second one actually was better than the first one. I broke a mower hub on the second. My brother already fixed it. My yard is rough and large. The cab cadet seems pretty good. I’m going to keep an open mind after repairs, could have been a fluke.
