As you know I have the Chevrolet 2500 HD 6.6 Gas engine and I  did  see a thread regarding catch cans for the 6.6 gas engines

Could someone provide the link to that thread as I have some questions regarding it

2020-2025 Silverado and Sierra 2500 3500 Oil Catch Can

This is what I put on my 2022 HD.  I have the black anodized one.  I mounted mine in the auxiliary battery tray. Inverted the included attachment bracket so the can sits a little higher, making it easier to reach.  Up here in Northern Maine in the winter, I empty it every other week.  Summer months, it does not accumulate much.

My trying to help you with your search should not be construed as me advocating for installation of a vapor condenser in the crankcase ventilation system. Personally I don’t think it’s necessary, but that’s just an opinion. I do not claim any specialized expertise on this. I have chosen not to install a “catch can” on my truck.

The design of the crankcase ventilation system on the 6.6L pretty much eliminates the need for a catch can. All you are going to get is water in them so I see zero reason to put one one.

Is the catch can needed on the 6.6 gasser, no, does it catch ( some ) stuff between the pcv valve going to the drivers side valve cover, yes, water, oil vapor, unburnt gas, burnt gas that just goes back into the oil like normal. 

      It really is good for sucking out ( some ) moisture before its burnt off anyway, so great for short trips. 

 

I came across an article by GM a wile ago explaining the valve covers designed for the L8T motor, quite interesting and designed to NOT let any oily vapors into the intake. Its easy to pop off the intake hose going between the passengers valve cover and intake and look how clean it is, or is on mine.

        

The first pic is winter in upper MN 44 mile drive, fresh oil change, can was empty and wiped clean, it took out that much water. So really good for winter use, dont catch as much water vaper in the summer. 

 

Again, is it needed,,, no, does it do something, yes, its not that expensive and easy to install or remove. 

    Would i install it again, yep, will i ever remove it, nope. 

 

The next pics are of the intake to valve cover tube wiped inside tube and connecting points with the Q-tips, notice clean going from the valve cover to intake.

Looks like condensation...as expected. That burns off with no issue and actually is a good thing. I will not install.

 

The 6.6L has baffles in the valve cover that reduces oil mist.

This is a pic of about 4500 miles, i used a small milk jug when in the mood to check and empty the can, the other pic is a 10oz cup i pored it into. 

            Oil on top, water oil fuel burnt and not burnt middle and sludge on the bottom.

I just installed one as well.  I feel it falls under the upgrade category of not required as there are plenty of vehicles that run without them but should help to some extent.  Just like I change the engine oil and all other fluids before the listed service intervals on all of my vehicles.  Again technically not required but if something does go wrong I know it wasn't because of my lack of maintenance.

That looks like a 1 quart jug. So maybe around 4-5 oz of fluid?

As i did an oil check and catch can check yesterday. I hadnt check either since my last travel day north towing the 5ver. So 8 days. The can was almost full of the normal oily tan water mix. Fullest i have seen it so far. I should have take  a pic but i was so surprised, i just dumped it and put it back on. 

 

So the best time for it/the can to do something seems to be colder weather as it sucks out moisture. Colder being very, very upper Minnesota weather. Summer very little moisture but oil vapor from pcv valve adds up at the bottom of the can.  

      The moisture burns off at some point anyway, without a can, but dumping a good cup of water stuff before it burns off cant be a bad thing.

    • We have now!  2027 GMC Sierra  Early look, but I'm a GMC guy and so far I think I like the looks of the Chevy better.
    • HD at the moment, are kinda their own deal.  How LTZ sells on those vs on 1500, there is a difference.   They are merging most of the mid trims on 1500.  LT, RST and LTZ are replaced by one trim, Silverado.  LT and RST are a BIG portion of sales.    Bad naming choice aside, the new Silverado trim will offer the spread of options that those three trims offered.  So expect to see things like the tech package for example, and memory seats.  And LT Trail Boss will now just be "Trail Boss" (formerly LT Trail Boss) but will offer content spread like the new Silverado trim will.  The press photos showed the Trail Boss (formerly LT Trail Boss) has access to Super Cruise now, which on the current truck was High Country only.       Here is the Trail Boss interior.  Memory seats and Super Cruise are present.  All things the LT Trail Boss it replaces, and the RST it was based on didn't get on the current gen.  You had to go to LTZ or ZR2 for memory seats, and High Country for Super Cruise.      
    • I installed a Hellwig rear sway bar on my 21 Sierra SLT, it made a huge difference on how the truck handles, no body roll, the trucks much more planted now. Not sure of the suspension differences between the 21 and 26,  if its body roll your having a sway bar will solve it. 
    • So a follow up and my fix. I found in online searches the live data to look at on a scan tool to verify the fuel tank pressure sensor was working.  It showed an spec number towards the lower end of the rang, but in spec.  Then while it was running opened the gas cap and the pressure should change.  It didn't change even a tiny bit.  The data for the purge valve said it was open...never changed. So then I measured the voltages on the plug for the fuel pressure sensor and they matched what it should be.  So local car quest parts had the sensor in stock...it was a bit of a pain to remove and an even bigger one to get it to actually go back in.  It helped to unbolt the driveshaft and bungie cord away from the gas tank to give a bit more room to work. So fuel tank pressure sensor in I cleared the code, and started it up.  I went to the scan tool's live data and... Eureka! The pressure number was different and fluctuated a bit.  So took it on a short drive and pressure number varied saw the purge valve go from closed to open and back to closed.  Drove it to and from work for roughly a week plugged in the scan tool no codes.  I took it in to get tested and passed.  In my state's infinite wisdom (oops meant greed), since I pushed the test with the maximum extensions I have to take it back in by Feb '27 to 'get it back up to date', then my next test won't be until Feb '29.
