Definitely propagated by Big Bread. Them's some shady characters.

That said, it's not quite been a full month since Independent Lubricant Manufacturers Association (ILMA) sounded the horn which prompted the CNBC story which spun up the Jalopnik article.

I thought I'd drive the point home by using something that is consuming your reserves of clean drinking water and raising your electricity bill, kind of like an unwanted house guest: AI. Now that y'all have invited Alexa into your homes, there's no getting rid of her, and she refuses to pay rent. But she'll tell you about the coming oil shortage. You heard it here first. I don't think we're out of the woods, yet...

If you don't believe Alexa you can see the post from our resident Amsoil distributor who posted about Amsoil raising its prices recently.

Walmart here has Roll Back pricing on many of their in stock oils.  Just grabbed a 0W-30 for our SUV, was $3 off.

I also found this.. API activated emergency provisional licensing because of base oil supply conditions meeting force majeure thresholds.

I wonder what's being substituted for Group III base oils...

I'd guess state side Group III. That Qatar plant is a GTL unit, Group III+

Interesting is I stopped off at a NAPA store in WV small town and they said they are having a hard time getting 0w-20.  I also have a contact at a Chevrolet dealership that said the ULV fluid for the 10sp is hard to get as well.  Not GM related but I  also stopped off at our local Kia dealership and they said they were out of their ATF and it was on order inspected to get it in in a week. They said they were limited to what they could order.

In the mean time AMSOIL see's what is going on and sent out a letter stating there are issues with getting supplies and pricing will have another slight increase but to be sure AMSOIL isn't seeing any issues as of now providing for their customers. They can supply as normal. Can't find what you need locally from your normal source?  Contact me I can get you the best price on anything AMSOIL.

Only thing I see in short supply are filters, thanks to Fram's parent company going ****** up. Places they relied heavily on Fram stock, shelves are bare. I think places like Wally are working negotiating pricing on other replacement brands before they fill their shelves with anything.

I'm set for a good while on all filters and oil supplies

It's pretty amazing the reach that First Brands had. This is the first time I've seen "out of stock" on a few different sites for popular blue AC Delco filters. Inventory on the remaining ones has been hit or miss.

Supposedly GM's new supplier(s) are ramping up production and popular filter "new supplier" filter models now have A/B/C designations depending on the product line and supplier? Like PF66A, PF66B, PF66C. A is their silver/advantage (budget, white filter/box) line, B is AC Delco Gold (black filter/box), and C is OE/Genuine GM (blue). Nothing like muddying the waters for the DIY mechanics.
