Spy shots of the new 2007 Sierra. I don't see the fender bulges and the bumper appears to be a one-piece unit. Here's the article:

If GM has enough intelligence left to produce the GMC Sierra without the tacky [Titan] fender bulges, and ugly grille/bumper, it will be interesting to see how many folks buy a Sierra, and install '07 Tahoe front grilles/bumpers. This would be a relatively inexpensive way to make the Silverado that should've been.

Of course, there's still hope that GM will produce both the Silverado/Sierra 'HD' version without bulges (as spy pics seem to indicate).

I'm still in disbelief that GM managed to screw up the new truck design that badly... especially when they hit such a home run with the Tahoe. How does this happen -- who approves these designs???

Sadly, I think I see fender bulges, ugly headlights and a front bumper low enough to scrape dog turds.

"On this latter note, GM will also be spraying noise-dampening foam throughout the internal components of the Sierra, Yukon, and all other upcoming large trucks and SUVs built on the GMT 900 platform."

Now this will be fun stuff to deal with when adding any kind of wiring, etc to the cab! LOL

It looks like the fender bulges are there to me. There goes the last thread of hope that there will be a good looking GM truck.

GM done awesome with the new Tahoe - don't remember ever seeing a better looking GM SUV and then just pissed down their leg with the trucks - what are these idiots thinking? With stupid moves like this, if they do go under, they almost deserve it.

Have you not seen the new '07 "tundra"? or should I say the Mutant F-150-Ram pick-up? Toyota TOTALLY copied ford and dodge (with a hint of 99-06 GM thrown in as well) and it is fugly as hell, but yet, it will sell, because it's a TOYOTA. Not only that, but it will probably win every award there is. GM finally tries something more modern, agressive, and different and they get bashed for it, but when companies like Nissan and Toyota do it, it's different and innovative and sells. What gives?

I agree with you! BUT if GM could get 1/10th of the reliability of Toyota, that would be the best truck.

Now here's my opinion.

I had a toyota for my first vehicle. I beat the HELL out of it...rarely took care of it and its still running today--years after I sold it thinking it was on its last leg.

I drive Ford F-150's for work. super cabs, shortbed, 4x4's with 4.6 or 5.7. Mechanically speaking ford blows chunks. The WORST reliability on any vehicle I've ever driven. The 03 had 2 motors, 2 transmissions, front end, rear end, countless brake jobs, new transfer case...lots of major work. Nearly every one in the company is like that. It only had 80,000 miles on it when the lease was up on it.

I now drive an 05 F-150---it has 50k on it. So far the 4wd has broken several times---transfer case, hubs, and u joints. The transmission is on its way out, rear end clunks and the gears are "loose" if you will, a/c is fair, starter, battery, alternator. That's just crazy for something thats got 50k.

NOW...

I have a Pontiac grand am. A 98. I have only replaced under warranty the a/c compressor, bcm, cruise control module, and an upper intake gasket set. It's got 98k. Very reliable, no rattles, squeeks, etc.

THe GMC --04 sierra 2500hd 17k. That thing has had more *cosmetic* issues than anything I have ever driven. Mechanically it's strong as an ox.

If you could only get the cosmetic reliability of a Ford (no squeeks, rattles, cheap ass painted trim parts, etc), and the mechanical reliability of a GM in a truck---now you're talking business.

If Toyota comes out with a good looking 3/4 ton truck...gm & ford better look out.

I looked at a tundra loaded with everything but leather----$36,000. I can't see paying that for a 1/2 ton truck.

Y'all... everyone keeps focusing on the style. How 'bout some added stuff, such as varying tailgate options: swingout gate / drop down combined unit. Cargo storage units in the bed or in the side bed side panels? What about the rumored side bed panel gate?

What about voltage mains? Are we still at 12 volts or are they introducing high voltage access?

What about the various AWD / 4WD options? What about rumored variable percentage FWD / RWD and combined 4WD options? By that, a rumor was that if the front wheels had more traction, that more traction would be placed on the front wheels, for example, and this could vary. Prevents bed from twisting around when trying to go up muddy hill.

Personally, I'm not into the styling issues for either the Sierra or Silverado... I'm just wanting more flexibility.

That's really funny you mention that.... toyota owners buy the trucks for "reliability." A friend of mine works at a toyota dealership, he said you'd be surprised that they're not as reliable as people "think" they are. He says (he's worked for GM and ford too) that toyota owners will bring in their truck with the slightest squeak or rattle and have it fixed immediately. He said that GM and ford owners won't bring the vehicle in until its about to break or blow up. That's just an observation he told me he had made. So are toyotas better because of preventative maintenance and anal retentive owners??? Maybe it's a complex that a toyota owner doesn't want to be the "ONLY" toyota owner with a defective vehicle and they're secrative about it being repaired whereas GM owners will piss and moan about every little nit picking thing about their truck.

Also, with the "looks" I think some toyota models are fugly as hell (and some toyota owners have admitted this as well) but they bought it because it's reliable. GM owners buy the truck based on looks and hope it's reliable? or are we basing our decsion to like the truck based on the fact there is a general consensus GM trucks ARE reliable therefore we now only care about how it looks???

Just some observations and questions I have made/wondered.

Edit: Almost forgot, my college roommate had a 96 tacoma reg cab short box 4 cylinder 4x4 with a 5 speed. Back in '02 it had about 70K on it and the transmission (a manual trans!) blew up. Something got loose and took out 4th and 5th gear. Cost $$$$ to fix, yet he says it's and incredibly reliable truck?

Not only that, I now remember helping my grandpa change the 5 speed in his '93 (much higher mileage though) for the same reason.
