"BWN: Steps corner assist, bumper" Does that confirm that there is a bumper available w/o the corner steps? When the box delete is optioned, is the bumper deleted as well? Or is that a stand alone option?

QXT: TIRE ALL LT265/70R17/E BW TL AT

ZXT: Tire spare LT265/70/17/E BW TL

I should've figured that out. I seem to recall that when you ordered in the 70s, you could specify separate tires for the front, rear & spare. I think my father would order OOR tires for the rear (snows in the winter), spec' the spare the same as the front & buy a 2nd tire to match the spare for dry weather use.

Example:

X prefix = front

Y prefix = rear

Z prefix = spare

(or something like that)

When the K2 trucks came out, there was a bumper without steps. I think almost all of them were found on GMC All Terrain packaged trucks. They got rid of it few months in to production. Box delete I think deletes the bumper. ZW9 is box delete.

The QXT tires are the Bridgestone Duravis M700. Spare does match.

Correct...my early build 2014 All-Terrain (built 10/13) had the non-step bumper.

Some RPO codes are 'reference only', meaning they can't be ordered individually, but will be supplied as a result of other selection.

Also, there are/were "merchandising RPO codes" in the past. When I ordered my '82, MX0 was selected for A/T (THM700R4) @ the dealership, while the production RPO was MD8. Not sure if this is still the case.

Then you have the "broadcast codes" that the production people use for selecting parts. The most visible use of this recently was the 2 character code on the decal stuck on the GMT900 framerail. Engine & trans' assemblies, radiators, torsion bars, springs, axles etc use the 2 character code rather than the PN on the line. Mat'l handling on the other hand uses the 8 digit PN.

MX0 is still used too LOL. I've seen it on cars mostly. When you say 2 character codes, so like torsion bars...do you mean like how they were coded GK, GL, GF, etc.?

Exactly!

Depending on the model (1500, 2500,3500) or options Z71, VYU, the bars differ.

The Torsion bars have a prefix to denote LH or RH. I tried to check mine for a label, but it wasn't visible. LGK & RGK would be an example.

I thought I could find some examples of the broadcast codes on some "note pads" (used scheduling sheets), but came up empty.

The 1st 3 pics are from the C/K truck era of '85 & '86. This paper work was attached to each cab/box/chassis/truck @ the start of each line. The assemblers would then know what parts were req'd to perform their job. Since I've got the lower part of the page, only the info contained on the upper portion was req'd. We'd cut the printouts (about 1 1/2" thick) on a band saw & keep the discarded portion for note pads.

As you can see some of the codes have been used for quite a while. Not sure if we'll see a Z75 option referring to quad front shocks in the future (dual piggy back Fox Racing Shox) maybe?. LOL

This pic is for the assemblers @ their bench & changed a bit for the GMT400.

134 is the schedule number & 0004 is the item number, that truck was a CK10753. For part of the program we built RO5 pickups, but no 1 ton chassis cabs.
