tony890721 Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 I have a 2007 Silverado classic with a 4300 Vortec and for some reason the engine hours are at 3 hours and the truck has 31K miles on it. Why did the hours reset itself or does it rollover? Last time I check it was around 1000+ hours
[email protected] Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 That's just how they are, they don't ussually work, they'll reset all the time, it's very common.
tony890721 Posted January 20, 2011 Author Posted January 20, 2011 Really? What about the new GMT 900 trucks are they prone to resetting the engine hours?
wurgs Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 My 05 HD truck at work just reset for the 4th time. 81.7 hrs for 144235 miles.
jdewolfe Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 My 06 just reset about a month ago. I'm not very happy about it, but as far as I know there is nothing I can do about it.. Pretty crappy if you ask me.
KMGZ400 Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 both my 03 suburban with 151,000 miles and silvy with 85,000 have yet to reset their hourmeters
dlstewart01 Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Its common... .IPC Engine Hour Meter Resets - keywords cluster DIC display hour meter intermittent start up #PIT4368A - (05/29/2007)2003-2007 Chevrolet Silverado Classic 2003-2007 GMC Sierra ClassicSome owners may comment of the ipc engine hour meter resetting. This concern may be very intermittent and normally occurs at key up and/or start up. GM Engineering is aware of this concern and working on a correction. At this time there has been varying success repairing this concern with the following information:
Check the battery/s with the Midtronic's battery tester and also perform a load test using a Vat40 or similar load tester to make sure the battery/s are in good condition. We have found in some cases a weak battery could cause this concern, this step is very important on vehicles with the 6.6L Diesel Engine where both batteries are used for cranking the engine.
Check the battery cables and make sure all connections are clean and tight.
Check the IPC powers and grounds (G200, G203, G100, G110 and the braided ground strap between the engine and cowl G104 and G107) connections and make sure they are clean and tight. If the IPC has not been replaced, replace the IPC.
burnthefurniture Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 I'm glad to know this is a common problem, mine just reset two weeks ago. Went from 2500 to 4 at 65000 miles.
SouthCo Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Yeah our '06 Denali does it and the '03 Tahoe doesn't. At least I can count on the odometer.
tony890721 Posted January 21, 2011 Author Posted January 21, 2011 so it really had to do with the battery being weak?
txab Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 so it really had to do with the battery being weak? Or connections and grounds
07SilveradoClassic Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 Interesting, I just noticed mine this morning did, I guess 16 hours ago at around 75K miles, gotta love this forum for finding quick answers!!! When you take your truck to a GM dealer for an oil change, do they check your flash files to see if you have the latest and greatest version?
00Silverado4x4 Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Yup, my '06 does it too. I was scrolling through the options on my "menu" a few months ago and noted the hours were in the single digits. Yet back in the end of '09 I was in the four digit range. I have no idea how many times it may have reset since it's not something I routinely monitor on my truck. By chance is the "total" stored somewhere in the computer on the GMT800's or are we all just out of luck?
dlstewart01 Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Hours are stored only in the cluster along with mileage. The cluster has its own module.
