have a set of ngk g-power plugs for my 06 silverado 6.0 v-max...are they worth putting in?thanks

Posted

No they are a cheap platinum plug if you drove a Honda then it would be a good substitute for .ngk double platinum. Just use the correct plug until u get in to serious engine mods.

Sure but I'll put money on it that you'll be swapping them out soon enough for the correct plugs after they start messing up and turning your service engine soon light on due to misfires. Just use the AC-Delco replacement plugs, trust me.

my old delco plugs were getting wore out...the new ngks made a smoother running engine...notisable difference, for how long i dont know..but i will find out

I don't remember specifically which NGKs I used but I ran them and MSD wires in my 03 when I changed the plugs on that. Normally I recommend OE parts but I had a summit gift card I wanted to use up. Everything worked fine and the red MSD wires probably added 15 HP. :)

G-Power is a platinum plug. OE was Iridium. It will work just fine. Could cause you a loss in fuel mileage and/or shorter life. Some of the Delco plugs are NGK. My 01 had NGK's from the factory with Delco numbers and NGK numbers but it was a TR5IX (stock number 7397).... But my 99 didn't have NGK's.... The NGK book on the back cover states which plugs they make for AC Delco and which they make for other OE's.... ...... You can take the Delco number and see if NGK makes it.

The guy behind the counter,

Jbo

Edit: Delco doesn't make all the parts in their box..... They too have vendors that supply them with parts. The trick is knowing who makes it for GM...... But in plugs I have always been Delco's in GM's, Autolite in Fords Less HT1 or HT15 plugs which i replace with Champ 7989 due to one piece design over OE two piece, Champions in chryslers, and NGK in imports.

One in which thinks only OE will work, doesn't know the fact the OE's assemble parts made by other suppliers. Does GM even still have a Delco Spark plug plant? Last I heard they only were supplying regular resistor plugs such as R45TS, and that was in the mid 90tys...... Since I have been seeing NGK's as OE with Delco numbering also as well as other plugs.

it seems better on fuel, and more responsive..but the delcos were completely shot.

EXPERIANCE, that is what caused me to make the statement that I did. I don't give two shits who is making Delco's plugs anymore and I'd be willing like hell to bet that your Chevy truck did not come with NGK's from the factory but what do I know. Just another guy in the trenches, changing out aftermarket plugs for Delco's when they come into the shop, misfiring.

Have a wonderful day. :)

Your 2006 GM REQUIRES a Iridium plug as do all GM trucks from 2004 up do, that's was they came with and that what must be used for optimum performance.

.......................................

Iridium is a precious metal that is 6 times harder and 8 times stronger than platinum, it has a 1,200°(F) higher melting point than platinum and conducts electricity better. This makes it possible to create the finest wire center electrode ever. The strength, hardness and high melting point of iridium makes it very well suited for a fine wire plug and for ultra long life spark plugs.

Attention: Please disregard the Set Gap Per Vehicle Specification statement on the side of an ACDelco® Iridium Spark Plug Box. The statement will be removed from the boxes in the future.

• A new spark plug has been released for use in the above vehicles. The new spark plug has an Iridium tip instead of the current Platinum tip. Due to the different tip design, the gap of the spark plug has also changed.

• The new spark plug, P/N 12621258 with AC Delco P/N 41-985, is gapped to 1.01 mm (0.040 in) when the spark plug is made.

Notice: The spark plug gap is set during manufacturing and should not be changed or damage to the spark plug may result. Any new spark plug found to not be properly gapped should not be used.

i know my truck is supposed to have delco iridiums...these were very cheap and seem to work perfect so far...when they misfire i will put new delcos in ...but until then i will keep posted on how they compare...right now when i floor it it is very responsive, more power and better on fuel..probably just as good but shorter life span..my two cents

not to start a peeing contest but..

my 03 SS stock factory plugs are printed with, NGK PZTR5A16, and AC.Delco 12567759

i still have them as spares. replaced with 41-985 Delco's

Most used plug in lsx performance cars. Been running them in my Camaro for 5 years never one problem tr55 all motor and tr6 or tr7 for n20 or boost. Now for a truck I would run something that last longer.
