Holster Suggestions

Hey Guys,

I know quite a few of you have handguns and carry so I figured I'd ask here first. I am looking for a decent paddle holster for my Glock 23. Basspro has the Blackhawk Serpa holsters for about $30 and I'm hoping to borrow one from a friend to see how I like it. I also checked out the Tagua paddle holsters and they seem pretty nice as well. It doesn't matter if it's leather or kydex but kinda leaning more towards leather.

I'd like to stay in the $30-50 range so I'm not looking for something super fancy and expensive. I'm just looking for a decent holster to use to carry in the winter when I'm always wearing a jacket and full IWB concealment is not needed. I already have a Comp-Tac for that.

Any other suggestions on a decent paddle holster?

I've had decent luck with Galco products, I used a Galco FLETCH for my Glock 23 and it worked great (I carry a 1911 and/or a Glock 26 now). Also look at some of the Don Hume products, pretty nice for the money. If you couldn't tell I much prefer leather over kydex.

I use a Galco for my Sigs (P229 and P245 both fit) and a DeSantis (spelling?) for my G32 (same size as your 23 but with the "I got there first!" 357 Sig round ). Both were a bit more than $50 but I carry OWB year round.

Ditto on OWB, been carrying for 8 years and I've tried 'em all. OWB is the most comfortable, most accessible, and when done right is still easily concealable. I was pretty paranoid about "printing" for the 1st couple years but I soon learned that most people are clueless and aren't paying the slightest bit of attention to the very slight bulge on the hip.

I was the same way but in the end no one ever notices. Open carry is legal here in NH and though it's not something I actively practice I've done it inadvertently before- if I have a jacket on I'll tuck my shirt behind the grip so I don't have to deal with 2 layers and a few times I've pulled off the jacket without thinking and gone around with it in plain sight. Never got any reactions.

I have a Serpa for my XDM40 and like it. The best part IMO is that it has a retainer so it won't fall out or let someone else grab it out of holster. The release is located so as you grab the gun your finger can slide right over it to release it so your draw is still in one motion. You also can remove the paddle and it has belt loops so you can carry it that way if you want.

I use a Blackhawk holster for certain ocassions, but only because I have a light on my Glock 22. If I carry my G27, it's always concealed and in a soft holster in the WB.

Drop me a pm, I have a serpa that I bought last year for my Glock 23 and can't use anymore so it's just sitting in the closet. If interested, I'll make you a deal on it. I liked it and had no complaints, my dept just requires that we use the Safariland for our off-duty or desk carry as most of the guys use their model with the light setup with our Glock 22's.
