Exhaust on 5.3 with AFM??

Okay I have the 5.3 with active fuel management which shuts down to 4cyl on the highway,, etc.

Does anyone here have any experience with aftermarket exhaust on these and how they sound when it kicks down to 4cyl mode?

If you have any exhaust clips or care to take one for us all that would be awesome! I love how my truck sounds stock but I would like to open it up just a little more.

No clips, But I put a magnaflow cat back and when it went into afm it was really noticable to me. I refused to have a v8 running on 4cy and sounding like it, dont have that problem anymore. Now I love the way it sounds :driving:

So what did you do have it tuned or put the stock exhaust back on? I would do the tune but I am under warranty for the next 6 years lol

I have the Corsa Sport exhaust and yes I can tell by the exhaust sound when it kicks down to 4cyl. It's not real noticeable, but with the radio off I hear the difference. Eventually, if I keep the truck long enough, I'd like to have the afm disabled.

I have the 5.3 with AFM and I have the dB (Corsa) exhaust. The noise it makes in V4 mode itself isn't so bad, but the frequency is such that you do feel it, esp. if the engine is lugging at all. I have no regrets- I keep the truck in M4 or M5 around town to keep it from going to 6th and using AFM and that really helps. On the highway, even in the flats out here in Michigan it doesn't stay on long when I'm driving at normal speed. Almost never came on at all living in NH- too hilly.

I have my DoD disabled and the 87octane tune through DiabloSport Intune. I've been really tossing around the idea of the Corsa Sport exhaust, but the price is holding me back. If you don't mind me asking where did you get your exhaust and did you find a good deal on it?, I know you get what you pay for and it's 100percent SS. How does it sound?, I'm thinking of the single passenger side exit. I don't want junk and I know Corsa is just about the best there is.

I've heard that it sounds similar to jake brake. I need to somehow find someone local and hear theirs in person. I'm really surprised there aren't a ton of youtube videos of this very thing. I did find one but it was hard to tell.

this video makes me want to not get exhaust. This really sucks bc they sound so great as v8's

I can't hear much in that video but yes you do hear a difference in V4 mode but everyone is making a big deal out of nothing. Put your DIC into instant MPG mode and watch how often and how long it spends running of 4 cylinders.

This is a video I made last spring. The truck goes into V4 at the very end.

Check out Gibson. I put a single side exit on mine and it sounds good even when switching to 4 cylinder mode. Its stainless and has a lifetime warrenty

i too have the Corsa dB series exhaust. easy to install, and i don't ever notice when it shifts to 4 cylinder mode while driving. you can hear it from outside the vehicle with your ear up to the tailpipe, but thats it :D

plus it sounds awesome when you stomp on it!

I bought them on Amazon. Cant remember exactly what I paid but it was cheaper on Amazon than anywhere else. Ballpark was probably around $800. I really like them. They definitely sound better than stock but not too loud as to be obnoxious.

Sounds nothing like a jake brake when dropping into 4cyl. The tone changes not really the level of noise (if anything may get a little quieter). It's not annoying or anything. I just like the tone of all 8cyl better.

Thanks for the video and the advice everyone. Now just to pick which set I want..

Anyone have just weld in mufflers? Or objections to going that route ? I don't really want to spend a fortune just to add sound. I am not worried about stainless steel pipes .
